LaBov & Beyond launches blank page as website.

November 16, 2007

It appears that the Advertising Agency, LaBov & Beyond has launched a complete blank page in Google that violates many of the technical guidelines in Google.

Such as :

Use a text browser such as Lynx to examine your site, because most search engine spiders see your site much as Lynx would. If fancy features such as JavaScript, cookies, session IDs, frames, DHTML, or Flash keep you from seeing all of your site in a text browser, then search engine spiders may have trouble crawling your site.

We had trouble initially finding the site in the search engines …

The site was lacking even the most basic meta description and meta keyword tags, hence detracting from the general ad agency argument that it’s for ‘look and feel’ since those metas are not even displayed to the end user. We haven’t found any other attempt at Search Engine Optimization within the site, as it loads entirely from a single flash process. (IE: the URL’s don’t even change).

Your post is not correct, you are using the strip=1, which of course strips out all media information. Labov & Beyond is a well known company that does not have to rely on search engine optimization to bring traffic to their website. The links from other sites to theirs and the public information regarding Mr. Labov and the company is stout.

I am reviewed the Labov site and I do not see how it violates technical guidelines. Your statemetn that Labov “launched a … in google” is completely false, nobody launches a site in google. A site is launched, google indexes and ranks it. Not all sites are trying to accomplish what you are speaking too. I know the SEM industry as good as anyone and this is just simply a fact. Your statements and criticism are definitely pusing the edge of honesty, perhaps going over it. From the research I have done, Labov is a large company with a stout client base, I would be careful and perhaps consider if you are guilty of slander, libel, or just complele dishonesty. I highly doubt that Labov relys on SEM to find new clients, Barry Labov and get a phone call with the top management of the largest companies just based on his name, he has been recognized globally and often.

    — The site DOES violate Google Guidelines:

“Use a text browser such as Lynx to examine your site, because most search engine spiders see your site much as Lynx would. If fancy features such as JavaScript, cookies, session IDs, frames, DHTML, or Flash keep you from seeing all of your site in a text browser, then search engine spiders may have trouble crawling your site.”

The entire site is in Flash — period… no text links — nothing at all that is spider able.

“Labov & Beyond is a well known company that does not have to rely on search engine optimization to bring traffic to their website”

    — Is that how you treat all your clients? “F-The search Engines” ….. No wonder firms like ours are growing much faster than most Ad Agencies.

“you are using the strip=1, which of course strips out all media information.”

    — Of course, Because Google has stated as per their guidelines that they read text… Despite your obvious lack of knowledge in the SEO world, I didn’t realize I would have to spell out basic SEO practices to you.

“I know the SEM industry as good as anyone”

    — Yea, that is my fear…

“I would be careful and perhaps consider if you are guilty of slander, libel, or just complele dishonesty”

    — Please Let them sue me for telling the truth…. I would love to plaster that notice on this site… I bet I could get that into Google News. You also noted that they don’t need the search engines to get them business.. so evidently anything stated on Tribble makes no difference to them and can’t hurt them

Hmmm, I never said I could not find the “problem” as described. What I stated is that this person’s criticism is assuming they are concerned about search engine rankings of their site, which is not clear. I know the company and I do in fact know they have done SEM work for many of their clients. Unless you understand large companies then you cannot throw out criticism. Labov does not take just any client, they are not seeking to be the marketing company of just any and every company, they are specialists.

As to the slander and basic dishonesty, you stated “It appears that the Advertising Agency, LaBov & Beyond has launched a complete blank page in Google”. This is a false statement and not even technically correct.

Who launches a site in google? Are you saying they launched a site within a google portal? What exactly do you mean?

As for my SEM knowledge, I have been doing it for 10+ years and I know the industry very well.

Now, when you find a company clearly trying to accomplish something and failing, then perhaps you can criticize.

But you should review your own house first.

I looked at your site and I find it visually respulsive, should I post a blog that states “It appears Yooter launches truly ugly site in google”? The lame flash banner, which is the same on page after page after page, is very boring and ugly”. Further, your overuse of text makes it look very 90′ish, wait, EARLY 90′ish.

As a programmer and long time web developer, I found parts of your website truly comical. I mean REALLY comical.

Dude, get a clue, you are not even in the same ballpark as Labov and other companies. You “brag” about having a client on NASDAQ, hmmm truly a sign of ….LAME

This is one of the best conversations I have ever seen. Little confused, maybe you can help me out. The whole “unless you understand large companies then you cannot throw out criticism” has to be the most arrogant response to losing an argument I have seen in a while. You clearly are the one who bought this piece of crap website, so it is good we are talking to you directly. Large companies(ie, ad agencies) are losing the Internet battle because you do not understand how it works. You would rather spend your 10 million on a PPC campaign because it worked three years ago. I would explain the law of dimishing returns to you, but I doubt you could keep up. To reap rewards, you need to be first at something. How are you different? How are exciting? How are you a making the search better with relevent information? Or are you just a blank page to google bots and as useful as yesterdays newspaper? You talk about how this company goes by name…everyone knows him that is in the business. Great! This pool is getting smaller by the day. How do you find new clients? The ones that dont know your name? Lets see, I am a rising company looking for a ad agency to help me expand. I wonder who I should go with….I know, I will google, ad agency. Good ad agencies should be on the first page right? Is it starting to sink into that arrogant head yet? Why would I want to look on page 500 to find my ad agency? I love the fact that you defend that you gross millions of dollars, by the way. How much of this is spent on overhead, rent, insurance, travel, etc…I can do my job from my house in my jammies eating cereal while producing huge positive ROI for my clients. How long can you compete against me? I love the fact that you rather work harder than smarter too. HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAHA….Thanks for the Tuesday laughs.

“As to the slander and basic dishonesty, you stated “It appears that the Advertising Agency, LaBov & Beyond has launched a complete blank page in Google”. This is a false statement and not even technically correct.

Who launches a site in google? Are you saying they launched a site within a google portal? What exactly do you mean?”

It’s 100% technically correct.. the site launched as displayed Google’s text cache is a blank page. Period. The site that was launched has results are a blank page in Google’s text cache.

The site launched in The Google index is blank.

How else could I phrase it to you?

The site launched is blank in a Google text cache.

The site launched has no Google readable text

The site launched is indexed in Google is blank, a white screen.

The site launched has not one text based word in Google’s text cache.

The site launched is 100% in flash, that violates their technical guidelines regarding how Google spiders the site. Hence why it’s blank.

The site launched is a non-texed based page and is indexed in Google as a blank page.

The site launched is displayed as a blank page in Google text cache.

I could phrase this 1000 ways.. and I fully intend to. If you want me to continue…

It’s not slander.. it’s the truth… let me guess… you can’t handle the truth? Please have your lawyer send me a cease and desist. I need more content to show the visitors. Generally speaking we don’t honor cease and desists unless their is a valid reason, you don’t have one.. so it’s fair promotional use for us. It would be the best thing you could of done for us in terms of marketing.

    The headline?

“PR Firm loses online PR battle, resorts to lawsuit”

It would be the best validation for SEO from an Agency… not because you endorsed it.. but because you were threatened by it.

The site launched…..HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHHA. When you start an ad campaign, how do you phrase it for the client? Do you tell the client…this ad campaign is a series of advertisement messages that share a single idea and theme which make up an integrated marketing communication. Do you always talk so technical to your clients to confuse them with industry jargon?

So, did you launch the website or ftp the files to the web server so your POS is in the root directory? Should we get technical, or is launching a site now ok with you? God, do you really need everything explained to you? And by the way, thanks for coming back. I am going to call you conversion number 1 from now on…

Dude, you are not correct, in fact you even admit that you mispresented the facts.

You originally stated that the company launched a blank site in google but then later you say:

“It’s 100% technically correct.. the site launched as displayed Google’s text cache is a blank page. Period. The site that was launched has results are a blank page in Google’s text cache.”

So, what you really mean is that the company launched a site that is blank when viewed in google’s text cache system. This is completely not what the title above says and you are a liar.

We ALL know that if you say “company launched a blank site”, means that everyone will imagine that if they pull up company.com then they will see a blank page. That is NOT correct.

When I have more time, I am really really going to mess with you because you are just…one of those people that give good SEO/SEM firms a really bad name. I am ashamed to say you are part of my industry.

“I am ashamed to say you are part of my industry.”

    — You are not in my industry.. you are not even the same league. I don’t see your sites ranking for anything.

“This is completely not what the title above says and you are a liar.”

    — I stand by my title 100% … this blog is designed to make fun of idiots like yourself that are technically backwards when it comes to SEO in the Advertising Agency space. The people that visit this site are generally SEO experts that understand the title. You proved my point beyond doubt. You didn’t even understand what ‘launched in Google’ meant. This leads everyone to think (with good reason) that your lack of knowledge could not contribute to any SEO effort in earnest, it’s like having a 2 year old working at NASA. “Can we play space shuttle Daddy?” It appears that your skill set just does not cut it.

    - We ALL know that if you say “company launched a blank site”, means that everyone will imagine that if they pull up company.com then they will see a blank page. That is NOT correct.

A blank page in my industry means there is no text format. But again, you are not in my industry… you are not even in the same league… as your SEO ability is evidently not up to par (from your lack of understanding of even the most basic terms).. We can’t count Flash as content because it’s UNSPIDERABLE… but if you were in my industry you would know this. YOU ARE A LIAR for even stating you are in my industry… go sell used cars or print media or something… because you are literally clueless on the SEO front..

Of course I saved the best for last.

    - one of those people that give good SEO/SEM firms a really bad name.

At least I know one thing, you are not educated enough in SEO/SEM to even have an opinion. You are a non-factor other than a distraction over the day having a good laugh at you.

The best part of this whole argument… you are defending a site’s SEO ability that violates Google’s Guidelines.

    That is hot.

    Welcome back CONVERSION NUMBR ONE!!!!!!!!!

When I have more time, I am really, really going to mess with you. Are you going to do it with a flash site?

CN1, the closest you got to our skill set in our industry was leaving a comment here. My advice is to go buy yourself a SEO book(just google that term) and read it. Tell Aaron he is welcome for me referring business to him. Then, you would be at the entry level of what we do….

    Thanks for the Thursday laughs….

Dude, or Dudette, I was manipulating search engines when EXCITE was the big dog. Yeah, like back in the mid 90′s, I know SEO better than you can probably comprehend. I am a senior web developer, architect, and have personally done over a million in interactive work in the last years. That does not include what my brother and partners have done. I do not work for Labov, I just found your post and find you arrogant.
Labov’s site is NOT the same as their clients sites and there are MANY companies that have no real reason to care about SEO, they do not need it.

For example, if a company designs a “european looking car” and then they receive criticism from ignorant people like you that “it sure isn’t an american looking car”, well then…as previously stated you would be ignorant.

I have looked you up (you know, the company behind this fake site) and you are a wanna be, never will be.

Good websites, such as the Labov site, do not need to be seen by billions. Only the RIGHT people, and you my friend will never be part of that group. Are you getting this yet? I guess not, because if you did, well then you would and we wouldn’t be here.

I know a little bit about Labov through the industry, and you can walk into the CEO’s office of ANY major auto manufacturer and they know Labov. They do not NEED to have google show them Labov, they know, you don’t, game over…

Labov is a multi multi multi million dollar company, they do not need google. They have done SEM work for companies, they offer those service and top notch interactiv services in general.

Labov is unique, Labov is different, Labov offers true value.
You my friend are a pissant, dime a dozen, hire them cheap, and the dudes in India can do what you do for less.

Now, maybe someday you can go to work for a big company and see some of what the real world is like. But even then, as a person that plays with the players and deals with the dealers, I can already tell you are destined to continue to be a little pissant.

    So, piss off!

    As previously stated, GAME OVER!

Henry, EXCITE was never the ‘big engine’ it was at most 15-20% of the market when Altavista was the monster in the mid-1990′s … and that is when altavista.digital.com was the domain name.. You know a decade and a half ago…

“Labov is a multi multi multi million dollar company, they do not need google.”

Wow.. speechless…. with that statement alone it’s 100% safe to say you have no idea what you are talking about… the only thing that made sense was when you posted ‘Game Over’… but not in the context you think.

It’s no big secret that we own the site, but we are not the only ones that post, Leo Burnett (you know the guys that made the Jolly Green Giant) as well as others are admins here as well. In short you have a minority opinion…. it’s the guys like you in the 1990′s that were stating ‘The Internet is a fad’ … we still make fun of that mindset… and shocked it still lives on.

Slamming our company is one thing… honestly we don’t care what you think… because in your opinion … and I had to post this again because it’s so freaking comical:

“Labov is a multi multi multi million dollar company, they do not need google.”

Please go do print media or some other industry.. you don’t belong on the internet.

    Welcome back CN1!!!!!!!!!!!

Your whole story was comical to me. Seriously, next time, warn me because I almost spit my coffee onto my keyboard.

    “Dude or Dudette”
“I have looked you up (you know, the company behind this fake site) and you are a wanna be, never will be.”

Um…if you looked us up, you would know if we were dudes or dudettes, BTW. Really not that hard to figure out who we are(me especially, I am all over the ‘net). ANYONE who has read Aaron Wall’s SEO book(shameless plug, tell him I sent you) would be able to tell me my name, age, where I graduated college from, my street address and my cell number. Which is to say, if you had ANY skillset in my profession you should be able to do this under 15 minutes.

I could go on and pick you post apart for the ignorance that you displayed there, but I really have work to do. I actually manage those multi multi multi million dollar clients you dream of talking to when you sit at your little corner bar.

Once again, thanks for the Wednesday laughs…

When I Googled the keyword “labov” the website is outranked by a page without a title tag. Yeaaaa…you need to ask yourself “Is this good for the company?”

After reading everything and checking out the labov website I have to say their site is lame technically, visually, contextually, and functionally…or not functional is the problem.

The site is currently not working, the “draw” option on the Contact Us page pops up to a copy of the home page. There are also some other weird quirk such as when you click on “Our Leadership” and then on Cathy Schannen, you will find if you believe the website she is bald and has nice facial hair! Overall I find the site to lack creativity, it seems the overall concept must have been driven by someone who lacks interactive experience, vision, and creativity (just my opinion).
There is a consistent theme of arrogance as well. I define arrogance, as it applies to this, as touting thyself without proper reasoning, facts, or even a hint of a reason as to WHY you are just so darn cool.
Has anyone seen http://www.labovideafactory.com, the site has a completely blank front page that lacks content. Viewing the sites history shows more of the same detailed above. This factory site seems to focus on criticising others in the industry including companies and other agencies, wow holy bad PR Batman! I guess the point would be “they are bad, so we are good”. Wonderful reasoning!
