Digg’s new design – epic failure

August 30, 2010

Open Letter to Digg and Kevin Rose,

This letter is on behalf of the millions of Digg users that were greeted on Monday to the latest news on Reddit.

Seriously, attached is the below screenshot of Digg in it’s full glory.

Kevin, If I wanted to go to reddit.com, I would have went to reddit.com. Digg has turned into an RSS reader… and honestly Google News is way better than what you are providing.

I strongly urge you to stop wasting your time and switch back to the former format, buggy as it was, it still wasn’t something that was completely fed by a reddit RSS reader. Something I already have as a Firefox bookmark.

This design is a complete epic failure and most likely will reduce Digg to a forum level trafficked site similar to something like SqlSpace.Com

It was fun while it lasted.

BlockBuster to file for Bankruptcy

August 27, 2010

Report: Blockbuster bankruptcy is imminent

Blockbuster Inc. plans to file for a pre-packaged bankruptcy in September. The Bankruptcy will most likely include a massive restructuring of the company including firing of the thousands of employees there and some say the company will completely convert to a “redbox / netflix ” hybrid with kiosks, mail order and streaming being their only channels.

The bankruptcy will allow them to get out of virtually all leases for their locations and allow them a “painless way” to fire all the employees.

The company has been on it’s deathbed for roughly half a decade or longer. So this doesn’t come as a surprise to many individuals. The company wiped out the advertising agency budget back in 2007

By 2009 the headlines on Tribble were stating “this company needs to fold”

By early 2010 we were stating that “blockbuster” was too big to fail. (yes we were making fun of both the company and the bailouts.)

We think it’s game over.

WPP Group posts $377 million profit on 7,000 layoffs

August 24, 2010

WPP group plc profits hit $377 million on the heels of a 7,000 employee firing. This is classic stuff. “Sir” Martin Sorrell is still expected to receive his $100 million bonus for a job well done.

This is perhaps the worst of the worst.

This individual ruined thousands of lives and families, yet he will be taking his $100 million bonus. For the record a $100 million dollar bonus roughly equals 2,500 jobs at $40,000 a year.

He will take nearly half of the total number of people he has fired in salary.

This is in reward for having the most technologically primitive advertising agency holding company in the industry. With very little investment in organic search optimization and a very weak holding for social media.

Enjoy the new reality…. also he might as well say “F-U” to the 2,500 people and their families walking the streets as he passes them in his limo.

Philadelphia requiring bloggers to pay 300 dollar business tax

August 23, 2010

If your blog only collects a handful of hits a day, the city of Philadelphia thinks you should cut it a check for $300 dollars, plus a percentage of revenue earned (and even if the revenue is $1 dollar, it still wants it’s $300.

Enjoy the new “job creation program” that the city of Philadelphia is employing as some people will pay more in taxes than they earn.

This is a virtual outrage, literally.

The problem at hand is the city is running out of funds, and it’s relying on anything that might generate income, including blogging where if Google Adsense sends you a 100 dollar check.. the city wants $300 + another $5-$10 or so in revenue taxes.

Enjoy the new reality… earn $100 dollars get taxed $310 for it.

The city of brotherly love, where your taxes go to the greater good.

fix the sign dunkin

August 22, 2010

Dear dunkin,

I love the sign even though I have no clue what the sign says.

This is poor advertising as it shows that the quality of your product is similar to the product of your sign.

This isn’t even remotely fair as honestly dunkin coffee is perhaps the best. Beating “crapbucks” by a 5:1 margin.

So please Mr. Dunkin, invest alittle in your sign, it reflects the quality of your product.

Signed,
Your fans

Paul Ceglia – The new owner of Facebook

August 18, 2010

Before there were hints and allegations that Mark Elliot Zuckerberg literally stole facebook.com from Paul Ceglia. The answer now appears to be yes. Showing the court a cleared check of $3000 dollars that Mark Zuckerberg cashed back in 2003 proves that there was a partnership. Here is a copy of the cleared check.

Mark Zuckerberg signed check

This is a photo of the new owner of Facebook.

The new owner of Facebook - Paul Ceglia

Let’s see the courts decide on this one.

The agreement called for Zuckerberg to do computer coding work and provided for a $1,000 investment by Ceglia in a project called “The Face Book,” in exchange for a 50 percent stake, Ceglia claimed. A clause in the contract gave Ceglia an additional 34 percent for delays in the launching of the site, he claimed in court papers.

Giving Paul Ceglia a total of 84% ownership of “the facebook” which was eventually just known as Facebook.

Enjoy the new reality.

RIAA : Force FM Radio on iPhones, Androids and Blackberry phones

August 17, 2010

In a big WTF, The RIAA is now stating that all cell phones must carry an FM transmitter.

See the problem isn’t a cell phone carrying a radio as it would increase the price of the phone only a few dollars and honestly it’s not a terrible idea as to pick up local stations, the problem is the RIAA dictating to us what we “must have” on our phones.

A perfect quote from the article:

“Rather than adapt to the digital marketplace, NAB and RIAA act like buggy-whip industries that refuse to innovate and seek to impose penalties on those that do.”

Sounds like the typical advertising agency to me.

The issue at hand is do you want the RIAA telling you what you can and cannot have on your phone? What hardware you are allowed to carry, and what you MUST carry?

I am sorry guys, this is too much for even me to handle. Go away RIAA.
