Login with Twitter or Facebook

September 30, 2009

Just an FYI for all Tribble Advertising Agency readers, You can now use your twitter account to login to post comments (or not login if you wish). This means that you can login once on Facebook, Twitter, Disqus, Tribble or even Yahoo for example and then post a comment here.
Just think about it, you can use your Facebook login to comment. No more double logging in, no more pain in the rear to just voice your thoughts. If you are logged into Facebook, Tribble, Twitter, Yahoo or Disqus then you can post here without logging in again.

This is a breakthrough and yet virtually a cave in for blogs such as Tribble Ad Agency, because we’re basically stating that people won’t sign up on smaller blogs, so we have to conform to the bigger sites so people can post here. If it’s not upsetting to many, you have to just think about it deeper.

It means that it’s becoming increasing more difficult to make your own website, get users to subscribe and increase your readership. It also means generally you have to default to the bigger players ID system.

We understand why, because who wishes to have 2000 usernames and passwords? But it’s the evolution of the web, and the bigger players are starting to control it in a much bigger fashion than before..

Enjoy the new reality.

“The Hut” / “Pasta Hut” / “Pizza Hut” — looking to fire BBDO

September 30, 2009

Advertising Age is reporting that “The Hut / Pasta Hut / Pizza Hut” whatever the current name is looking to fire advertising agency BBDO.

The report has stated that BBDO is looking to defend the account. We are not sure who to assign blame for the number of name changes to the company , but if it’s BBDO then they need to be fired.

The Hut

These failed campaigns at attracting attention to the chain has done little to boost it’s name, as people don’t know what the actual name is anymore. The review has started, and Pizza Hut is looking for greener pastures. Evidently we were told (but cannot confirm) that BBDO found out about the review via the trade journals, if this is true, this is the second time that BBDO has found out their client is looking to leave from the magazines and blogs rather than from the client, this however has not been verified.

“Same-store sales fell 8% in the most recent quarter, making Pizza Hut the biggest laggard of Yum Brands’ portfolio — and well behind competitor Domino’s, which posted a same-store sales decline of less than 1%. Upstart Papa John’s, meanwhile, posted same-store sales that were slightly positive. ”

Basically their advertising is doing a horrific job and causing Pizza Hut to “get destroyed” by the current competition. Though the Agency has faced 4 reviews in the past several decades, this one is deeply rooted in hard figures, which means that the agency is most likely going to have to fight with a spreadsheet rather than fluff.

Good luck with that.

FertilityAuthority Names Dr. Tarun Jain its Reproductive Endocrinologist of the Month

September 29, 2009

New York, NY [September 29, 2009]: FertilityAuthority has named Dr. Tarun Jain M.D., F.A.C.O.G its Reproductive Endocrinologist of the Month. Dr. Jain is part of the team at the Advanced Reproductive Health Centers / Chicago IVF and is a nationally recognized expert, researcher and leader in the fertility treatment field.

FertilityAuthority’s “RE of the Month” honor spotlights a fertility doctor who stands apart from the crowd. Each month the Fertility Authority editors, in consultation with their Advisory Board and experts in the field of reproductive medicine, recognize one RE for his/her ground-breaking research, outstanding patient care, efforts to make treatment accessible or unique treatment philosophy.

Dr. Jain “wows” people with his research on contemporary “social” fertility issues and his attempts to answer questions such as: Do women really want to select the sex of their baby? Are they willing to donate their embryos for stem cell research? Are women of all ethnicities and socioeconomic levels getting infertility treatment? He identifies the need for patient education noting, “I’m a huge patient advocate, from every angle. There are so many people out there who need treatment and so few people getting it.”

Dr. Jain serves patients at his clinic, but he’s also actively involved in RESOLVE, as a member of the Advocacy Committee, and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology. At SART, he’s a member of a five-person ART Validation Committee charged with monitoring whether clinics are reporting data correctly.

“We’re proud to honor such a distinguished member of the fertility community,” says FertilityAuthority’s Executive Editor, Laurie Gordon. “Dr. Jain isn’t afraid to address the tough issues facing couples today. We applaud his efforts to destigmatize infertility and raise awareness of the disease. He really wants what is best for patients.”

Previous RE of the Month honorees include Mark Trolice, John Zhang, Andrew Toledo, Avner Hershlag, Angeline Beltsos and Sherman Silber. Read their RE of the Month profiles along with Dr. Jain’s at www.fertilityauthority.com. Nominations for RE of the Month can be emailed to editors@fertilityauthority.com.

Awesome if he wore a Purel hand sanitizer promo shirt.

September 28, 2009

Sometimes a missed opportunity is what makes things so funny, this video went viral. But where’s his Purel hand sanitizer? LOL!! Clearly this video has all the makings of an advertising agency driven campaign, yet their agency missed the boat on this. As it went popular on Digg without any agency behind it, and of course it’s not meant to brand for Purel.

No New Ideas – “What happens here, stays here” to be restarted

September 28, 2009

“What happens here, stays here.” is evidently going to be the “new” motto, advertising agency R&R Partners created the slogan years ago, and (what some say due to the huge dollars promoting it) stuck in people’s mind. However the advertising slogan was pretty much thrown into limbo when the recession started… actually earlier.

The point being that it appears that for the city of Las Vegas, a town that has an unemployment rate of nearly 14% is looking for a new life, and in turn will use an old slogan.

Sort of unsure where this will go, it’s akin to Wendy’s bringing back the “Where’s the beef” commercials from the 1980′s.

Not sure if this is a valid strategy, considering all the aspects of what made Vegas a “fun place” are now gone, for one disposable income for the majority of people is down the toilet, the recession has bit hard into people’s pocketbooks. We’re not sure if “what happens here, stays here” will make sense when people are having a hard enough time figuring how what to make their mortgage payment, much less something “there” that stays there.

Sort of implies that “you deserve a vacation and a place to hide” when all these people want to do is pay their bills. A trip gambling looks like a complete waste of any meager resources left that should be applied to their credit card bills and mortgage payments.

In this authors opinion, perhaps an angle that shows “low cost, high fun” makes more sense due to the current economic situation. The very nature of the city and it’s image needs to be changed.

Perhaps it’s one of the reasons that Atlantic City (though hurting) is showing a nearly 2% higher rate of employment. Because many New Yorkers and Philadelphia residents view it as a “low cost trip to the ocean with slot machines”

Chances are this campaign will backfire, the situation has changed on the ground and a new plan needs to show up, not an old one. It’s akin to the federal reserve hiking up the interest rates today to slow down the economy… wrong action for the wrong time.

G20 Riot Videos – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

September 25, 2009

Some fresh videos coming in from Pittsburgh, PA G-20 summit, clearly things are going somewhat rough. Tear Gas, Riot police and “sonic weapons” vs protesters armed with everything from stones to vegetables are being tossed around? Wanna bet if an advertising agency decides to use this as some sort of ad? Clearly some of them have no problems with invoking 911, so the chances are someone will throw some of these (or related videos) as an ad for something.

Glenn Beck Murders Frog on National TV

September 24, 2009

Open Letter to Glenn Beck,

Want to explain exactly what was the reason to kill a frog on TV? Did that make you feel right? Was it worth it? Of course because that Frog contributes to the budget deficit it makes perfect sense to murder it to prove a point regarding spending bills.

So you know Mr. Beck, you completely moved the topic from whatever point you were trying to make, because now the topic is why would you murder a frog on national TV? Are you going to eat the frog?

You sir are an asshat, no one found that funny….

Google Talk / Gtalk faces severe outage

September 24, 2009

Widespread reports that Google talk / Gtalk is facing severe outages. Most people are seeing zero people listed online, causing widespread disruption in the workplace for firms that use Google Talk as their instant message program of choice.

People are reporting that this is what they are greeted with when they login:

googletalk

Notice that no one is online? Even if 100 of your friend are, zero people are showing up. Reporting are coming in world wide (blog posts from Saudi Arabia to China are showing the same problem as us in the United States).

People don’t tend to realize how much they depend on Google until problems like this show up. A contact to Google has not been returned at the time of the publishing.

Ad Agency M&C Saatchi profits down 28.4%

September 24, 2009

M&C Saatchi reports 7.5% revenue drop in first half of 2009 — it’s ugly — really ugly. The UK Guardian reported the story roughly 20 minutes ago. Evidently the recession is putting major pressure on their clients, which in turn is slashing and burning advertising dollars in huge ways.

“Revenues in the six months to 30 June fell to £49.8m, down 7.5% on a like-for-like basis, eliminating the positive impact of exchange rate movements on overseas revenue. Operating profits were down by 28.4% to £5.5m.”

Profits down 28.4% …. that is normally grounds for layoffs…. though we hope not. Someone tell me when this depression is going to end?

Jim Edwards rips Ogilvy’s Seifert a new one

September 23, 2009

Ogilivy Advertising Agency executive Seifert has been lambasted by Jim Edwards on CBS/B|NET .. and lambasted is putting it lightly.

From the Article:

“Bill has so much to be proud of in his Ogilvy career, and we have much to thank him for. I would not have the leadership opportunity in front of me today without Bill’s wise counsel and unconditional support. Bill is as ‘Ogilvy Red’ as they come … and always will be.”

Then this is the kicker:

“What Seifert is pointedly not referring to are the parts of Gray’s career that he is less proud of, particularly his role in the White House anti-drug campaign scandal, in which six — six! — of his top managers were convicted of trying to defraud the government. Seifert’s wife, Shona, did 18 months in prison in that caper, which prosecutors said started because Gray was angry that the agency wasn’t making enough money on the account.”

ROFL!!! He’s bragging about putting his wife and half a dozen of staff in Jail? Someone please enlighten me on exactly what’s so great to brag about with this?

This must be the only industry where you can commit fraud to the highest level, and then make a great name for yourself. We’re along the lines of used car salespeople and bankers in terms of public happiness with our current level of ethics. Total BS to see this happen in front of our eyes… and we’re happy that Jim called him out on this, because honestly this is the type of trash that needs to be exposed.
