Navy starts Agency Review after ‘gay ad campaign’ by Campbell-Ewald

April 23, 2008

Late last year, Campbell-Ewald was responsible for placing Navy ads on Gay Websites in an attempt to recruit gays into the Navy.

This of course is against the Navy policy… so not only did it make headlines for a waste of tax dollars, but also it pointed some light towards their advertising agency, Campbell-Ewald for how they are allocating the Navy’s resources.

As of now, it appears that the Navy is searching for a new Ad Agency to handle their account. Campbell-Ewald vows to defend, though the ‘gay ads’ are still in memory… we are unsure if that fact will influence the decision.

Some also point fingers at the fact that the Navy has chosen not to renew Campbell-Ewald social media campaign for the fact that the ad agency was not successful at Social Media and online marketing for Navy recruitment purposes.

It’s exactly what tribble agency has been stating all along, advertising agencies don’t understand the internet and social media. Though in this post, you can see just how upset ad agencies get (look at the comments) when you call them out on the fact that they don’t understand it… (funny thing, the comments are from Campbell-Ewald regarding the Navy account).
