UK ‘3 hours from full banking collapse’

January 26, 2009

Britain was just three hours away from going bust last year after a secret run on the banks, one of Gordon Brown’s Ministers has revealed. City Minister Paul Myners disclosed that on Friday, October 10, the country was ‘very close’ to a complete banking collapse after ‘major depositors’ attempted to withdraw their money en masse.

60-year-old Lord Myners was accused last night of being ‘completely irresponsible’ for admitting the scale of the crisis while the recession was still deepening and major institutions such as Barclays remain under intense pressure.

The Daily Mail is reporting

This part is driving us crazy “‘completely irresponsible’ for admitting the scale of the crisis ” … meaning that things might even be worse now but no one knows? It’s under wraps?

An old school bank run, only now it was done online via wire transfer.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) have banned a Apple iPhone 3G TV campaign after regulators branded it as misleading consumers over the speed the iPhone 3G can access the internet.
This is the second time Apple (AAPL) has breached the advertising code regarding the iPhone. The first ban was back in August over the original first generation iPhone.

Mandrake hears that the Government is paying M&C Saatchi, the advertising firm part-owned by Lord Saatchi, the former Tory chairman, to advise on its public relations strategy.

UK : We need an Advertising Agency

March 26, 2008

The Government is getting ready with for the next census in 2011, as it starts its search for an advertising agency to underscore the importance of the survey.

The Office of National Statistics brief will be handled by COI. The aim is to encourage more people to take part in the once-a-decade event, with the ONS particularly keen to appeal to the young and the elderly, the groups who are most reluctant to complete the survey.

The last census was held in 2001, when the ONS appointed M&C Saatchi to handle its £4m advertising and marketing activity. The agency created a campaign called: “Count me in”, showing different people raising their hands.

It is understood the ONS will also be searching for a direct marketing agency to help carry out a segmentation exercise to identify various hard-to-reach groups such as the migrant population.
