OMFG : Why Apple will succeed
May 31, 2011
Ty Fujimura wrote an article on the Huffington Post stating “Why Apple is Doomed”
This is it’s rebuttal, line by line.
While they do make superior hardware, their secret sauce is interface design. Apple consistently develops interfaces so intuitive that instructions would seem silly. Even toddlers can navigate the iPhone effectively. Their products simply make sense, in a way their competitors seem unable to match. Because of this unique advantage, Apple has achieved their greatest success creating mobile devices, where the interface is psychologically closer to the user.
This is 100% agreed, and for the record, it’s 100% the reason Apple will succeed for years to come.
His management, even his vision, is replaceable. But that brilliant sense of taste, to which Apple owes their success, will not be matched by the next regime. His death would leave Apple closer to the pack than ever.
Steve Jobs leaving Apple of course would be a huge loss, however the company has succeeded due to a simple business model that has 4 main parts.
Often, More, Faster, Genial or better said OMFG
* Often release new versions of the product
* More 3ed party apps that Apple can control
* Faster the better
* Genial Interface
This isn’t rocket science. Steve Jobs already laid out the groundwork in terms of what the interface needs to be. Apple doesn’t need to be innovative in terms of programs or apps, an Army of 3ed party developers has that covered. All Apple has to do is just make sure the interface works with the hardware in a dumbed down simple mode. Put it in a white case and release a new version every 15 months and bingo it’s going to sell and fanboys and girls are going to give Apple whatever it wants.
That’s it. Apple is in a good position now. As long as they follow this snippet that you provided in your article:
Longtime Apple engineer Mike Evangelist was once tasked with heading the design of a DVD burning program for the Mac. His team developed dozens of sophisticated mock-ups and gathered to present them to Jobs. “He picks up a marker and goes over to the whiteboard,” remembers Evangelist, “He draws a rectangle. ‘Here’s the new application,’ he says. ‘It’s got one window. You drag your video into the window. Then you click the button that says BURN. That’s it. That’s what were going to make.’”
Apple needs to innovate on the hardware and interface side. Everyone else will do the rest of the innovation for them. When we mean innovate, we mean a VERY limited amount of big virtual buttons and maybe some decent voice recognition in the future.
This honestly has been their strategy under Steve Jobs for decades, and it will continue to be their mission for decades to come. No one buys Apple products for their cutting edge technology, but everyone buys Apple for their simple to use interface.
Also worth mentioning, it’s always a good idea to give away computers to schools… it’s been an Apple strategy since the 1980′s… and every generation a new group of kids know what an Apple is.

Flash on your iPhone
April 7, 2011
Why would CBS publish flash content on their iPhone mobile site? Are they making a statement?
The screenshot makes a mockery of mobile website development.
Apple needs to either allow Flash or web developers need to stop using it.
I prefer the latter.
So what would be the solution? Seriously this garbage can’t go on forever… Comments?

White iPhone 4 confirmed at Verizon!!
January 11, 2011
The white iPhone 4 is confirmed at Verizon.
Photo is from the Verizon website under “color options” !!
Evidently there is some mass confusion at Verizon, as the color options have been removed from the Verizon site (though we do have a screenshot of it being there) Some individuals are saying at Verizon that it’s being offered, others are saying that it’s pre-mature and it may or may not be available by launch.
The fact that Verizon itself is confused with this is causing such mass hysteria.
Enjoy the new reality.
We believe after speaking to several sources that Verizon DOES have the White iPhone 4 however not in sufficient quantities to offer it on a mass scale, hence why it was posted, then removed.

Verizon to Announce White iPhone 4 tomorrow
January 10, 2011
We broke the story in October / November that Verizon will be exclusive with the White iPhone 4.
Well tomorrow is the big day. We had a semi-confirmation back at the end of November as well. Our sources have stated that Verizon will be making the full White iPhone 4 announcement, and as we stated earlier, the White iPhone will only be on the Verizon network. Also as what we noted before, it will be going for $199 with a 2 year contract.

The story is developing. However watch for the announcement tomorrow and finally everyone will be able to buy a White iPhone 4, but remember, it’s only going to be on the Verizon network.
Don’t you just love Apple?
The issue many individuals have is that they endured AT&T’s terrible network only to be rewarded by Apple the lack of a White iPhone.
Verizon however did score big, as many women will be defecting to Verizon the moment they can, (market research points out that nearly 85% of the White iPhone’s are sold to Women as most men prefer the black model).
Enjoy the new reality.
For us stuck on the AT&T network, your White iPhone won’t be showing up tomorrow on AT&T.

RIAA : Force FM Radio on iPhones, Androids and Blackberry phones
August 17, 2010
In a big WTF, The RIAA is now stating that all cell phones must carry an FM transmitter.
See the problem isn’t a cell phone carrying a radio as it would increase the price of the phone only a few dollars and honestly it’s not a terrible idea as to pick up local stations, the problem is the RIAA dictating to us what we “must have” on our phones.
A perfect quote from the article:
“Rather than adapt to the digital marketplace, NAB and RIAA act like buggy-whip industries that refuse to innovate and seek to impose penalties on those that do.”
Sounds like the typical advertising agency to me.
The issue at hand is do you want the RIAA telling you what you can and cannot have on your phone? What hardware you are allowed to carry, and what you MUST carry?
I am sorry guys, this is too much for even me to handle. Go away RIAA.

Hulu launches 10 dollars a month subscription service
June 29, 2010
Hulu has finally done it, they launched a 10 dollar subscription service to allow people to watch TV and movies for $9.99 a month.
Evidently the media companies that own it have been putting Hulu under some extreme pressure to generate a profit.
A new tab opened up on the site directing users to Hulu Plus, a section that shows current season episodes of “Glee,” “The Office,” “House,” and other shows from broadcasters ABC, Fox and NBC. The service also allows viewing of multiple back seasons of shows. Meaning that for 10 dollars you get to see all the older episodes as well.
Inital reports are stating that Hulu will then be made to be seen on Mobile Devices as well, as currently all mobile devices are banned from Hulu (iPhones, Androids, Blackberry are all banned). However ripe skeptism still is surrounding the mobile issue.
A free, ad-supported version of Hulu remains available, but with only recent episodes of shows.

Steve Jobs : Google do no evil is bullshit
February 1, 2010
It doesn’t just stop at Google, he goes on a rant about Adobe as well. Calling their developers “lazy”. It’s a classic triad on par with any human being with a small tool set.
Nice Watch
Regarding Google: We did not enter the search business, Jobs said. They entered the phone business. Make no mistake they want to kill the iPhone. We won’t let them, he says. Someone else asks something on a different topic, but there’s no getting Jobs off this rant. I want to go back to that other question first and say one more thing, he says. This don’t be evil mantra: “It’s bullshit.” Audience roars.
Regarding Adobe: They are lazy, Jobs says. They have all this potential to do interesting things but they just refuse to do it. They don’t do anything with the approaches that Apple is taking, like Carbon. Apple does not support Flash because it is so buggy, he says. Whenever a Mac crashes more often than not it’s because of Flash. No one will be using Flash, he says. The world is moving to HTML5.
pretty funny… well not really… see it would be funny if the iPhone, iPad, iTouch actually supported Flash… but it doesn’t… yet the Google Android does.
So the insults flying from Jobs mouth are more along the lines of Apple’s personal failures… rather than the companies he is targeting.

BREAKING - FIRST iPad TV Commercial Leaked
January 28, 2010
This is the official first ad from Apple regarding the iPad.
Though I have to admit I like the other ones better below.
CRYING! The video it’s freaking hilarious, and rightfully so. This iPad is a piece of junk. Who’s gonna buy that when it can’t do what a netbook can, but it’s too big to be an iPhone. I am sorry apple, this thing is a turd.. good luck selling it. It’s only marginally better than a iTouch.
In Apple’s eyes you need to carry an iPhone in one hand, an iPad in the other, have your Macbook strapped to your back while running to your Apple Desktop.
What everyone wants is a super powerful phone that can double as a desktop when plugged into an external keyboard and monitor… don’t worry about the Mouse.. we will use the phone screen for that… oh yea.. this won’t work on AT&T only.
and for the non-steve jobs one..

AT&T sues Verizon over “There’s a map for that” ad
November 4, 2009
This is classic, AT&T is suing Verizon over “There’s a map for that” TV and Youtube commercial. Engadget is reporting
As a subscriber to AT&T I find the advertising fitting, as using my smartphone on AT&T’s network is akin to using a dial up modem for Youtube. It just doesn’t work right. Perhaps if they covered more markets with a viable 3G network this wouldn’t be a problem. In our area, there are more jailbreaked iPhones on Verizon’s network than on AT&T’s.. because honestly the AT&T network here just doesn’t work. Also worth noting is that interest in the Google Android phone in this area is tremendous, basically people want anything other than AT&T.
Apple has not us no service locking people to AT&T to use their products. The short term strategy may have worked, but long term people just want a working smartphone, don’t think that having a cool looking brick is fun to have when it’s unusable.
Hopefully AT&T will lose this one.

No laptop going to NYC ad agency
August 22, 2009
Well this is going to be a fun trip. Heading to New York city to meet an ad agency client. While preparing I opted to use my smartphone rather than my laptop. Currently it is working like a charm as this exact post is being made on a samsung blackjack II. Clearly its not a problem, as just 10 minutes ago I was watching ‘TV’ on Youtube and snapping photos with the camera phone and uploading it to facebook.
Yea using a small but full QWERTY keyboard is awkward but functional.
If only the iPhone had a plugin keyboard.
