Edwards : DDB’s Blockbuster Win May Be Pyrrhic Victory

March 4, 2009

Jim Edwards’s report on the DDB win of Blockbuster hit the nail right on the head. Yesterday the stock had it’s trading halted when it hit a staggering 13 cents per share with surrounding rumors that the company is going into bankruptcy. Even though today the company “rallied” to 46 cents. on it’s official denial of going into bankruptcy protection. The fact that people believed the Bloomberg report tells the world the overall outlook regarding the company.

Jim Edwards tends to look at Advertising Agencies the way that most people need to…. it’s not the creative… it’s the bottom line…. and in the case of Blockbuster… that bottom line is really down at the bottom.

Enjoy the recession.

Anheuser-Busch might kill their advertising budget if purchased

June 23, 2008

Anheuser-Busch’s primary advertising agency has been the Chicago office of DDB Worldwide Communication Group for almost a decade and a half, however the brewer still parcels out plenty of work to large and small advertising agencies in their hometown, St. Louis. Local companies that have worked with them are Direct Impact Inc., Drive Agency, Cannonball Agency, Group360 Visual Communications, Momentum Worldwide, Rodgers Townsend, Waylon Ad and XG-Ad.

The problem is that if InBev buys them… all these companies just lost an account… the biggest loss dollar wise will be DDB.

Advertising Agency Doyle Dane Bernbach ( DDB ) under fire for ‘9/11′ smoking ad

March 2, 2008

Obama Smoking

Evidently it appears that Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB) created this ad and it’s upsetting many victims families from 9/11 saying there is no moral equality to having 9/11 hijackers murder thousands of people vs someone smoking.

One is murder the other is suicide.. not the same thing… not by any stretch of the imagination. It’s not like the likely president Obama is making his own advertising regarding smoking.

It’s upsetting to say the least to use thousands of peoples name that were murdered for a non-smoking ad. Sure smoking is bad… but your mixing messages there..

The New York Post calls Agency Spy the ‘blog of death’ regarding Paul Tilley

February 27, 2008

In perhaps the most stunning example of Yellow Journalism, the New York Post calls Agency Spy the “blog of death”

We are sorry regarding the tragic death of Paul Tilley .. his children now face a future without him.

However that being stated, if Agency Spy and George Parker kill themselves over this.. should Gawker and The New York Post be the ones to blame? Evidently they reported a story on the bloggers.

These people are reporters doing their job, as we stated before, DDB has refused to comment if Paul Tilley was fired on Friday….

The Sun Times reported that Paul Tilley’s girlfriend was on the scene (something they later removed from their site WITHOUT a retraction)… not his wife. However Google did catch the page.

Paul Tilley Girlfriend

The point is people, there were other issues at work… you can’t assign blame to a random blogger… We read nasty stuff about us every day… killing ourselves was not ever considered.

We will never know what killed Paul Tilley … what we do know is that assigning blame to a blogger for reporting a story is a cop out… it’s not the truth.. it’s a made up excuse for something far bigger than anyone will ever know, as the source is no longer with us. However if people won’t accept this, and blame is to be assigned, we feel that people that have questions should get DDB to answer definitively if he was fired on Friday.

EDIT: We just got word that DDB has denied that he was fired.

Rick Carpenter, the CEO of DDB Chicago, said Tilley’s job was secure and he seemed happy after a big client presentation went well on Wednesday.

‘it’s time for your to rename this site BLOODONMYHANDS.COM’ regarding Paul Tilley

February 25, 2008

i think it’s time for your to rename this site “BLOODONMYHANDS.COM’

That was a comment from The Agency Spy Website

Never have we seen attacks against reporters for reporting a story, in a blogging format no less. Agency Spy reported the death of Advertising Agency Executive Paul Tilley. The level of attacks towards these reporters was intense. To the point where it was almost organized.

Gawker then spreads more disinformation about the case by accusing Agency Spy as the cause of his death.

We found this tidbit of information regarding him:

Tilley’s girlfriend identified him to police, according to authorities.
Full Story

It could of been anything that caused it, the fact that a girlfriend was mentioned but not a wife… we heard rumors that DDB fired him on Friday… but these rumors were not verfied and most likely won’t be due to the sensitive nature of the story.

Reporters accusing reporters of causing the suicide is not right… it’s not ethical.. and it’s hypocritical. Especially from Gawker … a site known to ruin lives with constant slams on individuals. If anything ever happens to someone that Gawker reports on… we will make sure to bring this up… as of course Gawker would be the cause of the incident.

Thanks for the dis-information Gwaker … as a reporter you should know that there is a big difference behind reporting on a story or killing someone.

Agency Spy did not kill someone… all they did was report a story… something you do on a daily basis.
