Pepsi switches ad agencies - sort of….
April 17, 2008
The Chicago Tribune is calling this a ‘significant blow’ in the Pepsico move from Element 79 Partners to TBWA/Chiat/Day but in reality, both firms are Omnicom Group. Did Pepsi really think they are moving? It’s akin to switching account managers in the same shop.. different phone number, same boss.
It’s a joke of epic proportions. They are not switching ad agencies, they are switching phone numbers.
To even make matters worse, Agency Spy has a long list of comments to the discussion… classic!!
In a significant blow to advertising firm Element 79 Partners, the high-profile advertising accounts for Gatorade and Tropicana are being shifted to other agencies, the latest in a series of PepsiCo brands to leave the Chicago ad shop.
Gatorade executives said Wednesday that its parent company, PepsiCo, is switching creative work for Gatorade to TBWA/Chiat/Day in Los Angeles. The Tropicana orange juice account will be moved to Arnell Group in New York. Both TBWA and Arnell, like Element 79, are owned by New York-based advertising agency holding company Omnicom Group.
