Not a single Advertising Agency made the top places to work

Agency Spy wrote an article regarding the fact that not a single advertising agency made it to any of the great places to work.

Not a single agency was listed on the most admired list. Nothing… no mention of Advertising Agencies at all.

People, we are going to get hit, and hit hard during a recession. One of the first things to go is Advertising… and the traditional firms are the first to take it… InterActive will bear some of the brunt as well.. but not to the same extent.

The point we are trying to make is the reason none of the Advertising Agencies made it to the top lists.. is because honestly they are not a top place to be in this market. Who wants to work for a firm that lasts and stands only until it’s next review… and trust us… there are going to be PLENTY of reviews showing up in the next 12 months.

The first place to assign blame is their marketing and advertising when things turn down… and things are turning down. Some of the safer areas in the Marketing world would be SEO (as it’s very cost effective in terms of ROI) and other more low cost Advertising…. such as social media….. but quarter million dollar spends on full page ads in Time Magazine are going to be less common for the next few quarters… if not longer..

30 and 60 second National spots on networks are going to be something that will be harder to budget for as well during this time…. in short… the normal traditional advertising route is going to be nasty for 2008-2009 … expect layoffs industry wide…

One of the main issues surrounding the Ad Business is not really recession related… it’s their own dumb fault. Zero investment in interactive, zero investment in SEO, zero investment in digital. They invested nothing in the high growth areas… and of course will suffer for it.

By now, virtually every Advertising Agency of medium or larger size should of purchased an SEO company… instead what they did is went hell bent on Flash and what they termed ‘digital’ … wrong move.

Those are high ticket priced items such as one time $200,000 dollar development jobs…. stuff that shows up only once in a blue moon… as compared to a wider offering to all their existing clients at X per month for search engine optimization…. and SEO tends to stay around longer… why? Because the ROI is higher.. and that is exactly what people are looking for at this moment during a recession.

Our bet that any SEO firm with a million or more in revenue will weather this recession better than any traditional firm..

Feel free to disagree with us… but facts are facts… we are in a recession.. and high priced advertising will be targeted first…
