Huge Flaw discovered in iOS - causes problems for Android Users
April 4, 2012
Nerd Alerts is reporting that a huge flaw was discovered today regarding iOS group messaging, where it forces non-iOS users to recieve hundreds if not thousands of text messages with no way of stopping the massive bombardment. Non-Apple users such as Google Android owners cannot remove themselves from the list, subjecting themselves to potentially massive text messaging fees if they don’t have unlimited texting.
one of my friends, an iphone user, sent out a group message and included me (along with several other iphone users). the problem is that even though i’m done with my part of the conversation, i still get every single reply from EVERY OTHER MEMBER OF THE GROUP that is an ios user…which in this case, appears to be about 7 or 8 people. my phone is literally blowing up with a text message every 5 seconds.
the fun part about this is that when i reply, my message only goes to whichever user i reply to…making “group messaging” to non-ios users pretty much useless. how apple couldn’t see this as a major problem is beyond me.
The problem is pretty huge for Android users, because since they cannot group reply and you can’t remove yourself from the list, they are forced to read message after message and reply individually to each person saying to “stop”.
If this potential security flaw (in focus a security flaw to your wallet without unlimited texting) is not addressed it has the potential to be abused to a huge level.
Apple needs to address this now… non-iOS users should not be allowed to be put on groups until a better solution is found. It’s not like apple doesn’t know who the iphone users are… since clearly they are put on imessage.
Story is developing.
