GOP Strategist : Default would be good for GOP Whitehouse
July 5, 2011
A GOP strategist noted off the record that it’s not in the best interest for the Republicans to raise the debt limit if they want to take the Whitehouse in 2012.
The strategist told us off the record because what we were told was nothing less than mind boggling. This is what he said.
“Americans vote with their pocketbooks. Over the past 235 years we have punished or rewarded the President by how our personal economic situation is.
By most estimates we are in a recovery and by election day the average American will be better off financially than right now. However if we default on the debt, we would be hitting the darkest days of a near depression right around election day. We could run a random guy on the street and beat Obama.
There is zero incentive for the Republicans to fix the economy right now. After the election it will be the sole focus as they need to reward the American public for electing the right party.
Don’t be so sure that there will be a debt ceiling deal. It’s in the GOP’s best interest NOT to fix the problem right now.”
That’s what we were told people. Not sure what to think about this. We can tell you a bit about the Strategist. He worked for George Bush Senior in the 1990′s, and he also worked for George Bush Jr as well.
The man has met both Presidents.
Enjoy the new reality.
