New Windows Phone Ad – Epic Failure by Crispin, Porter + Bogusky

October 12, 2010

The Message “You can’t do shit on the Microsoft Phone, so it can’t take up any of your time”

Advertising Agency Crispin, Porter + Bogusky made the piece from our understanding, the problem is that it says “Microsoft Phones suck, you can’t do anything on them so don’t bother”.

That can only be the reason for the lack of distraction. I guess any iPhone, Blackberry or Android phone that can distract a man when some hot babe is waiting for him must be a REALLY cool phone. Where the implied thought is that a Microsoft Phone wouldn’t be so cool, hence you’d be with the babe.

That’s a really poorly thought commercial, and the funny thing is that a quick survey noted that the vast majority of individuals thought that was the message.

Seriously Crispin, Porter + Bogusky, you could do better than this.

Edit: we initially published that it was created by Mccann Erickson but it appears that it was created by Crispin, Porter + Bogusky …. it could have been created by a 5 year old with a webcam for our opinion of it.

It was done by Crispin, Porter + Bogusky and it has been getting good reviews from other Ad industry blogs. The message is more of the windows can SAVE you from your phone.

I’m on the fence on the idea from the TV spot but knowing CP+B they will have some integrated factor that will give the whole campaign buzz.

I think it’s terrible. “You can’t do anything on a Windows phone, so you won’t be distracted” is not exactly a great message.

I agree with you on that. A phone is a phone but I can see the “why” in this strategy where the phone is supposed to serve you the information better so you aren’t starring at your phone all day, thus the “Windows Phone saves you from your phone” messaging. Like I said I’m on the fence.

    Hmmm…

The point of ad (clearly) is that our phones don’t do very well what they promise to do. Under the guise of existing to enhance life, they have coincidentally also complicated it. Anybody out there who uses any smartphone understands this. The ad does well, striking at a commonality with a bit of humor- we all get it because we’ve all been there.

The Windows phone promises to solve this problem, and based on the varied experience and functional differences it offers, it will at some level deliver.
