Netflix Boycott over CEO Reed Hastings growing

Due to the following statement by Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix a Number of Americans are now demanding the same discount that he is offering the Canadians. And many have stated that they will simplistically pay the amount the Canadians pay and have Netflix worry about the accounting nightmare.

THR: Are you concerned that American Netflix subscribers will look north and ask for the same discount Canadians get at $7.99?

Hastings: How much has it been your experience that Americans follow what happens in the world? It’s something we’ll monitor, but Americans are somewhat self-absorbed.

Really Reed Hastings, you view us as self absorbed idiots that don’t read news or know anything that happens outside our borders? Of course we don’t. We Americans are complete idiots. We don’t know that we have thousands of troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Japan, South Korea, etc. We never noticed that all our products are Made in China. We have no idea why some people are wanting to erect a fence between here and Mexico. In fact where is Mexico?

Seriously Reed, perhaps the only one self absorbed is yourself. For some distinct reason you feel that you use the toilet differently than we do.

So I will end my self absorbed rant…. while I am at it… I want the Canadian discount. Or else the boycott will continue….

The boycott plan is simple, it’s not really to 100% boycott the company…. just we plan on paying what the Canadians pay.. let your accounting department figure out the mess.

    The lower price that Canada is getting right now is probably to get the service jump-started . Once subscription rates reach Netflix’s desired penetration level, the price will go up.

    As for Americans being self-absorbed, I would have to agree. Most people that I know have no clue what goes on outside of our borders and don’t care. There were a lot of people that couldn’t even find Iraq or Afghanistan on a map until we put troops on the ground there.

    Canceled my netflixs subscription of 10 years this morning after I read Reed Hastings remarks. Reed you can self absorb that! I hope everyone cancels and then he can move the whole operation to Canada.

    I’m only 20 minutes from the border. Clearly, I should qualify.

    This statement was a colossal misjudgment, especially because the bulk of Netflix promotion is from users singing it’s praises. Now we’re too dumb to notice? Explaining the pricing-strategy would have been so easy and likely would not have generated much controversy. In fact, I often think the price is still too low. Oh well.
