Resumes to Google News

June 18, 2010

I have been thinking about this for a while. Would you guys / girls be interested in a resume to google news service? Literally a way to post your resume and it will appear in Google News?

I wasn’t going to charge anything for it, it was more of a public service. My assumption is that if your resume appears in Google News (like how the New York Times publishes “people and movers”) it would be highly helpful for your job search.

Of course they will be screened as to comply with standards, but this will allow you to get maximum light for your resume.

What is your opinion on the matter? Would you post your resume knowing it will go directly to Twitter, Google News, Facebook, mailed to a few thousand subscribers that work Advertising , etc.

Tribble advertising agency is literally a machine, so it’s fairly automated to get out into all those areas. The idea is that it would hit up as many targeted people as possible. Makes CareerBuilder or Monster look backwater if we move forward.

But I do need feedback from you to see if it’s worthwhile to build the modifications for the site to make that happen.

Too generous of you. Worth testing, but thinking thru the process an HR rep would need to have a name to keyword search for in Google Search to get the Google News results. Uhhhg!

What a candidate could do is trigger Google AdWords with self-serving ads targeting HR, talent, recruiters, etc. which to the Tribble/Google News posting (serving as a poor-wo/man's microsite or splash page. It gets complex, but worth considering.

No wait, let's say there was a required field that said “media buyer” or “Search Optimization Expert” or whatever… it would rank for THAT term rather than the name if I made that the title… so if someone googled “media buyer” in Google News that resume would show up.

I like it. I was thinking about “how the hell would you keep things fresh; delete/purge old postings” from Tribble, but Google News would do that for you by posting the most recent “Integrated Account Director,” “SEO Expert,” etc. You could always delete any posting that's 60 days old which encourages the candidate to repost.

All things being equal, yes, SERP Ranking should count for something. If these resumes included a well-formed link to personal homepage, even better!
