Casey Jones : Communication breakdown lead to Enfatico Failure

August 17, 2009

The Media Bistro / Agency Spy article points to “a communication breakdown” is what caused the Official Enfatico Countdown clock to go faster than budgeted for.

Not the fact that Enfatico was a horrific Idea to start with.. or that it had serious problems from day one is what caused the failure, not lack of communication… Lack of communication implies that there was something worth communicating about. This was a failure from the day Sir Shorty went up to Michael Dell and signed the contract.

It was publicized at a 4.5 billion dollar project when it was announced, no one (not even Dell or WPP) can really put a dollar figure on what was wasted on the project. Of course there are hard figures, like the 10 year leases that still have 8 years left on them or the fact that Enfatico went on a 1000 employee hiring spree that never reached any of it’s goals.

It’s ugly people, really ugly.. but to blame it on a communications breakdown is nothing less than a cop-out… it was a failed agency to begin with.. you can’t build an advertising agency with a horrible idea. This was the pure definition of horrible idea.

Enfatico is still in existence. The only change was it went from being a complete standalone to being a standalone agency within Y&R Brands. You’re just another uninformed h8r trying to make a name for yourself at the expense of people doing a very admirable job in the face of the acknowledged leader in horrible clients.

Get. A. Life. You know nothing about the situation, but you act like you’re an expert. Move along now, boy.

@You Sir: are you kidding? This is a joke, right? Please tell me it’s a joke. If you are serious, and you know the situation, please enlighten us because, honestly, by all accounts, Enfatico is the biggest failure ever in the ad world.

According to “You Sir” Enfatico is a shiny beacon of success… and everyone is really jealous of their achievements.. Like the Mother NY spots that Enfatico created… or their 10 year leases… All advertising Agencies need to be run like Enfatico… because it runs like a well oiled machine….

If you consider Snake Oil to be able to lubricate anything.

Whatever the case may be, all I can say is that I completely disagree with “YouSir”.
No offence, but facts are facts…
T.Boone pushed Enfatico at full throttle into a brick wall and honestly, and am speaking on the behalf of many others in WPP, should never work in digital or be given any other opportunity in a top management role.

Enfatico was a disaster of epic proportions. It was completely unmitigated and cost nearly a thousand people their jobs, a company was screwed out of a budgeted 4.5 billion dollars…850 ad agencies worked under threat of Dell leaving them… so they never hired the talent they needed if they expected the relationship to continue.

Nothing good came from this, other than traffic to Tribble’s countdown clock.
