Doner fired more than 100 people

April 17, 2009

I’m getting leaks on Twitter that Doner fired far more than 100 people, the estimates they are quoting me substantially more what the initial figures are, which also BTW was initially leaked on Twitter.

From what we are hearing Doner has lost at least 30-40% of it’s capacity in the latest layoff round. The Reason we suspect that this report is accurate is because 2 days after the layoff was “announced” via Twitter, the Doner CEO then had to issue his own statement, that confirmed the Twitter rumor.

In other words, Doner might not be considered a “big” agency anymore. Our understanding these layoffs were so severe that the advertising agency has lost complete capability in several disciplines, meaning that if the economy recovers, and if Doner lands new accounts, large amounts of the spend will flow out of the company for outsourcing since the agency has lost the capability internally.

This is good news for the specialized companies, and for the freelancers.. but overall it will become a drain on the companies hope of growing again for some time… as they want to land big accounts but won’t have the resources to handle them internally anymore.

Also I wonder if anyone left there has the capability of fixing this Google result… sigh..
