No such thing as Mobile Advertising

April 1, 2009

Come to think about “mobile” was all the rage a distant 2 years ago… everyone from Google to Microsoft to WPP group plc invested millions upon millions in mobile marketing… only to find themselves fighting two unwinnable wars.

1 - The mobile devices got so good, that mobile only websites became irrelevant. Meaning that people’s iPhone or Windows Mobile using Skyfire or Android power device were rendering websites just as your computer does. Yes, the phones were progressing faster than people could develop websites for them.

2 - What was left of the mobile market became saturated with “no revenue model” twitter.

Does the mobile market even exist? The answer is flatly no. Before the checks were cut to develop their mobile advertising model was outdated… just like the phones the executives were carrying…

Virtually all “mobile advertising” plans now central around twitter and building a site that is less flash intensive. Not rocket science… and not really mobile marketing… just marketing as normal with a twitter aspect.

Now some aspects of mobile we would like to see a deeper market penetration for, such as paying for things via your mobile phone in real time.. like the checkout counter.. or to get a soda from a machine so you can tie your marketing efforts to an actual sale…. your phone broadcasts bluetooth that you can do anything with….. there are endless possibilities.

This would work wonders for Coke or Pepsi… hot day.. hit the buy button on your phone.. soda comes out of the machine…

I don’t understand why my headset doesn’t work with this phone..
