Chicago starts Ad Agency bailout program

March 3, 2009

The Sun Times is reporting that the Mayor of Chicago, Richard M. Daley. has signed another $5 million public relations contract — bringing the citywide total to 11 firms and $55 million and to put it lightly, Chicago citizens are furious.

Here is a list of advertising agencies that got the Chicago funded bailout package. Jasculca/Terman Associations, MK Communications, Carolyn Grisko & Associates, Landrum & Brown, Inc., Valerie Denney Communications, American Marketing Services, Better World Advertising, Interpro Translation Solutions, Metropolitan Group, LLC , Jim Mudd Advertising Agency and Cultural Communications LLC.

Contacted Monday, Heard was surprised to learn that an 11th PR contract had been awarded, contrary to her public pronouncement. When she inquired further, she learned it was for “translation services.”

Translation services so everyone can read the propaganda. This is literally the definition of government waste. The PR campaign is waste, and translating it into multiple languages is waste on top of waste.

We’re all for bettering the image of Chicago, how about doing it with a balanced budget and making sure there are no homeless people. Instead 5 million is allocated to translation services to translate the 50 million blown so far.

In all 55 million dollars so far has been wasted by the City in a PR campaign that has 11 differing themes and multiple languages. There is no central message.

Enjoy the Chicago bailout package.
