Advertising Agency WPP Group plc lost 55% of it’s value in 6 months

In the past 6 months, advertising agency WPP Group plc has lost over half of it’s value. 55.11% to be exact.. Advertising in general is always the first to be cut during a recession, but WPP group plc has been hit harder than most. Omincom group inc for example has been hit only 35% during the same period.
The other Advertising Agency holding companies have been hit even harder than WPP. For example Interpublic Group of Companies, Inc with a breathtaking loss of 61.55% over the past 6 months. Havas has been hit as well with *only* a 46.75% drop in market cap
Relatively speaking, Publicis Group S.A (ADR) has been hit the least with only a 22.29% drop in the past 6 months.
Even the best case, the holding company model has lost a full quarter of it’s value, in the worst case people have lost WELL more than half their value.. approaching 3/4 of their money have vanished in a matter of months.
Will the Ad Agency Holding Company model fail under this recession? That is a question that will be asked more and more. Many of these holding companies are debt loaded and honestly they are trying to service the extreme debt loads while at the same time facing decreasing revenue of a huge magnitude.
