Was Virgin America’s CMO asleep at the wheel? Never let your lawyers run your relationships with the blogging world. We picked this up on Media Bistro that Steve Hall is being sued by Virgin … and it’s a WTF.
Steve Hall runs the popular adrants website.
Steve Hall even has taken down the offending ads… and yet Virgin is still suing and now facing a backlash from the blogging world. It will take millions of dollars in Social Media work to repair this damage… not from the post.. but rather from Virgin’s reaction.
Their lawsuit now turned into a multi-million dollar problem for Virgin..

Becoming a subject of mockery is a tough branding problem.
Let’s follow the logic here: Adrants publishes an image that no reasonable person would take for an actual advert; and even unreasonable people wouldn’t think that Virgin had sanctioned it; and to top it off, the spoof ad was actually promoting Virgin over other airlines; so the lawyers decide to sue.
This is so incredibly stupid that it has to be some type of misguided, ill-conceived stunt by Virgin simply to garner free press (which is bad in its own right). It’s just stunning that Virgin would make such a colossal blunder.
Does it sound like there is any logic in their actions? They are freaking idiots…
