Ad Agencies that back “the wrong guy”
January 18, 2009
It appears that some Ad Agencies are getting stiffed over last years political campaign bills. In this case, David A Renzi owes thousands to Scott Howell & Co. LLP. AFTER the Republican candidate has made 15 payments totaling $1,039,630.44 to the ad agency.
Now the total amount according the article left is only $14,056 out of the over a million paid to them, so by and large the ad agency was paid nearly in full, but this is only for a single case. What happens with a long drawn out one where the expenses boom and the candidate still loses? Generally campaign funds dry up like a pond in Arabia leaving the candidate with no choice but to default to the advertising agency.
Pretty ugly stuff. In some races it’s very possible to see massive defaults after the election if the ad agency backed the wrong guy.

Got something to say?

Love the article - not for the fact of stiffing agencies (as I don’t condone that for anyone), but for having agencies stay out of politics. A while back I posted a blog at http://www.mediatwo.net/blog/2008/11/congratulations-president-obama.html in which I proposed at the end that we not allow advertising in politics. Instead, why not provide one website for every candidate and allow everyone to read where they stand. Don’t give the presidency to the best marketer - instead challenge American’s to vote based on controlled information. Granted - that wouldn’t be all that American, so what do I know :).
