DOJ : Google was 3 hours away from being thrown up on Anti-trust charges
December 4, 2008
three hours - literally that would of changed the face of search in a matter of hours. Google would be lumped in a 1910 Standard Oil, 1984 AT&T or 1990′s level Microsoft. This would of dramatically changed the nature of virtually everything that has been the set standard over the past decade in terms of search engine optimization… scratch that… the internet as a whole.
The level of penetration of Google into the internet is breathtaking. Perhaps the best way to phrase it, if Google disappeared or was broken up irresponsibility, the level of layoffs would make the big three autos collapsing look like child play. As much as people don’t want to admit it, Google owns the internet.
Countless people and companies earn their living from Adsense and marketers depend on Adwords for their promotion of their products. In essence a whole mountain of people will lose their jobs if Google went down.
When Google pulled out of its proposed search advertising deal with Yahoo last month, it was chief legal counsel David Drummond who made the announcement. He cited concerns of a “protracted legal battle,” but only now do we learn that the Justice Department was only three hours away from filing an antitrust lawsuit to block the deal.
