Deflationary Advertising Is Now Here
November 17, 2008
Deflationary Advertising is here. It’s not the quality of the products, it’s not the greatness of the products, the message - ” BUY IT NOW! PRICES WILL NOT BE ANY LOWER THIS YEAR” literally… see the photos below.
Why is Boscovs focusing on this message. It’s for the same reason I told my wife not to buy Disney tickets yet for next year… because I told her prices will get cheaper. It is part of the reason (other than the credit crunch) that people are not buying cars, houses or anything for that matter. Because tomorrow they will wake up to a new reality, the prices are going to go down.
Just how down? Really down… as I noted above, I told my wife NOT to buy Disney tickets, don’t buy airline tickets… just don’t buy anything for our planned trip early next year. She was miffed, upset.. saying “how can you do this for the family vacation”… I told her to just watch…
We saw the plane ticket prices go down literally on a weekly basis, from $400 dollars a person, to $300 a person, to $200 a person, to $100 a person…. and now.. $79 dollars a person.. and dropping.
We saw in the past 4 weeks hotel prices go from $200 dollars a night down to $85 dollars a night… a 3 star hotel in Orlando.
We saw gas prices hit the floor…and car rentals… that is even better… we are seeing last year 100 dollar a day cars going for 35 dollars… and it’s not even close to being finished yet. Now if it were up to me (and it won’t be as my wife will eventually pull her hair out as she doesn’t understand deflation) I would rather just go to the airport that day.. and get whatever is open… and I bet I will beat whatever the rate is today….
Also worth stating, the last time this country has seen deflation like this, it was 1929…. this does look like the great depression part 2.
Also the deflation report is out…
