The Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania Catherine Baker Knoll has died at 6pm EST
This is her last message posted on her website:
To All Pennsylvanians:
Although I have no intention of escalating my bout with illness into some kind of ‘daily bulletin’ dimension, the recent intensity of media inquiries and some random speculation going around make this a good time to clarify some things about the condition of my health.
Those of you who know me well understand that I am seldom subtle in my communications, and I won’t be now. Several points should be made clear:
* My condition is good and we’re working at improving it each day
* I am no longer undergoing cancer treatments.
* I have left the Johns Hopkins Hospital and entered a physical therapy program to deal with an infection that has slowed my recovery schedule.
* I fully intend to return to my duties as Lieutenant Governor, but I don’t have a timetable for that. I haven’t even considered stepping down—it took over two centuries for a woman to occupy that chair, so its understandable that I’m not eager to permit this illness to prompt me to vacate it.
In the meantime, I appreciate—and so does my family—the many good wishes that you have sent my way, and we continue to be grateful for the respect for our privacy. I look forward to getting through this and restoring my website messages to the business of the Commonwealth.
