They know what they are getting themselves in for. AdHurl wrote an article regarding these Ad Agencies don’t know what is going on… but they know what they are getting themselves in for bidding on the Safeway Account for 250,000,000 USD.
It’s a massive account, the problem we see with all the contenders is that they don’t have the inhouse capabilities for Search Engine Optimization for example. In fact none of the agencies bidding understand organic search optimization branding (mostly because none of them have purchased one of the 10 or so strong SEO firms).

What a fucking strawman argument. SEO isn’t needed for the account (somethign you’d know if you showed even the slightest sign of knowing anything about advertising and marketing). When was the last time you used a search engine for “split pea soup”- or do you simply KNOW your local supermarket carries it.
The advertising choice is one between Safeway and the competition at a local level- not where Safeway appears in page rankings relative to a grocery store that could be located half a world away.
You really don’t give this much thought, do you?
Too invested in your little slice, I guess.

If I followed your ’straw man argument’ Safeway wouldn’t even have a website.
It’s 1985 right?
