Google Chrome Browser - Hints at OS as well
September 1, 2008
Google is launching the Chrome Browser according to their official release, but alas, us Linux and Mac users will be out of the loop during tomorrow’s launch. However some of our internal sources are stating that it WILL run in WINE … so it’s possible Linux users will be able to test this out.
We are unsure of this time if it’s based on Firefox … however our understanding is that it is GPL’ed and does use much of the Firefox base code… as well Apple’s WebKit… however with some massive improvements.
We always knew that Google was developing a browser…. it’s just timed to release with the new IE …. however the insider leak we got is that there is an Ubuntu derived OS that they are building as well… however the only screen shot we can find was from 2005 … meaning that the chances this will look the same are slim to none.
Supposedly the OS is slimmed down to basically “get online” … uses Google Docs, Search, Gmail, etc… and is Linux based so of course you can install whatever you want on it…
Trust us, this story is really developing………….
