Talbots loss widens after hiring Publicis

August 27, 2008

Comparable-store sales slid 11.7 percent at Talbots and 13.2 percent at the more casual J. Jill, the retailer said. A change in the start date of the Talbots brand’s June clearance sale and increased markdowns to clear out J. Jill apparel hurt profit, the company said. Inventory fell 22 percent from a year earlier.

Sullivan, former president at Liz Claiborne Inc., became CEO of Talbots in August 2007. The retailer appointed new design and merchandising executives, hired a new advertising agency and brought in a consulting firm to assist in looking at its brands and operations. Source

The Ad Agency hired was Publicis … and we can’t stress enough.. ROI people… ROI…..

No one is going to stay with their agency if the ROI is dismal….
