ace douchenozzle

August 5, 2008

It started off with “hey where is my link” for breaking the story about Dell’s ad agency Enfatico buying Apple Computers and turned into ace douchenozzle slams from Parker’s Blog.

The problem was not clear cut as multiple reasons contributed to the open warfare.

For some historical context, Agency Spy has in the past been one of the bigger outlets for advertising agency news. The format was fairly easy to use via a wordpress platform.

Then within a very short period of time, Media Bistro migrated the site to a buggy CMS system hosted on their servers, then lost their then lead blogger.

In short the site was hit with multiple points of failure. Leaving their newer blogger (Matt) as the sole writer with an inferior platform as the outlet.

It ended in disaster as many individuals couldn’t even find the site in the first place due to the horrific migration attempt and the individuals that could find the new site were unable to comment on the new system.

Then came this recent event.

George Parker posted an article that was (in spirit, not word for word) previously posted on Agency Spy… normally this doesn’t make headlines as it’s a pretty common thing that happens all the time.

What made it a mess is that Matt then sent over an e-mail to George saying “in a pretty blunt way” where’s my link! Then George of course posted the whole e-mail in the main page of his blog, and the fireworks set in.

Pretty bad insults set in… and the reasons behind them are actually more than what the e-mail deserved (though the e-mail was more blunt than what would be considered casual). The reasons for the fireworks literally could be attributed to the above listed reasons.

In all we personally enjoy both blogs, both have their niche … Parkers Blog is a hilarious read that pokes serious fun at the industry… Agency Spy even with it’s massive technical problems, has a wonderful way of breaking stories….

We read them both on a daily basis… and honestly this could of been handled better by all involved…

I agree that it could have been handled better But you have to agree that the whole exchange did illuminate what many have been feeling.

Matt’s site sucking has nothing to do with the glitchiness or anything else. That might have its own set of issues, but that is not why people are complaining. Even when when Super Spy was at the new site for that short amount of time, she still managed to post relevant news.

The reason people complain is because of his lack of knowledge or insight his writing and his general dumbing down of a previously great site. I know you support him for some reason, but it seems like most people (including me) don’t get it. From his early inanities to the latest (eva’s nipple), it’s just not relevant. I think the comments left on Adscam point out why other blogs (Adscam, you) are must reads while Agency Spy is no longer so.

First off thank you for calling Tribble Ad Agency a ‘must read’. Very seldom do we hear that…

You know Redox advertising sometimes is an ugly business.

It’s hard to get into, and Matt reminds me of myself when I started this… it’s sort of why I respect him.

If you look at both of them.. I respect Parker a whole lot… the guy has been there.. and done that… he was putting ads out for 386 computers in the 1980′s …

His life experiences dwarf that of most of us…. if not virtually all of us..

How many other people had this life experience?

that being stated… regarding Matt, I respect him as well… mostly because he is in a tough place.. starting off with the reasons I noted earlier… and the general mindset of the blogging world being WTF …

Sort of like when I started this site (look at the comments) ….

Now in the long run I have been vindicated as all these ad agencies are finally buying digital firms… but it’s been years since I posted that…. and for all this time we digital / SEO / SMO people have been called outcasts (and still are for the most part).

However people aren’t calling us idiots anymore… in fact they are buying our firms because our growth rates are higher than theirs.

IF it’s one thing I learned so far in this industry… don’t knock down someone just because the general mindset is not there…. he or she might be on to something…
