Martin Sorrell thinks Google is playing unfair

June 22, 2008

Looks like Martin Sorrell is shaking in his boots.. a report that just came out from Ad Week has him tossing and turning at night because Google talks to his clients directly… what’s the fear?

WPP has virtually zero internet infrastructure.. .no devices at all for SEO and a technically savvy monster called Google that is eating his lunch. As George Parker so succinctly calls you the Poisoned Dwarf.

Think about what you are complaining about.. that Google is talking to your clients directly… if your products were good.. this wouldn’t be a problem… however you are selling an inferior product.

You never purchased an SEO firm… but you did have your company Young & Rubicam buy the Robert Mugabe advertising agency and have no problem with your other company, Ogilvy, lobbying to cause a recession from high oil prices.

You made bad choices Martin Sorrell .. really bad choices.. I am surprised your shareholders are not in an uproar over this. What shocks us the most is the fact that WPP has not yet purchased an SEO firm.. like they don’t even have any hired talent in regards to understanding how Google ranks things.. it’s so bad over there that WPP has several clients they have to share with tiny SEO firms… it’s almost like they are trying to ignore the 900 lbs Gorilla in the room… and getting bossed around by little SEO firms on how your clients site looks and feels must feel crappy to say the least.. .but exactly how you should be feeling since you ignore the entire industry.

Perhaps WPP should make a decision, spend a few million buying an SEO firm.. use that talent to increase the rankings of whatever clients they have left… and learn to live with Google…

You are so entrenched with your anti-Google stance that you can’t see the forest though the trees.

Trust us on this.. you don’t even know where to shop to buy one… WPP is not educated enough on the topic to even formulate a list. Your best bet would be to ask your clients where they are getting their SEO done… because for the most part it’s not WPP billing for that work.
