Yahoo to use Google Adsense
June 12, 2008
In the biggest act of retreat the internet world has ever seen, Yahoo will be testing Google Adsense for a trial run, the program is being considered as a total replacement for Yahoo’s Search Marketing….. in other words, Yahoo is considering a total dump of it’s Panama program in favor of Google’s Adsense to be displayed on their site. Advertisers will be able to login to their Adwords account from Yahoo as well.
The Yahoo-Google agreement has a 4 year term, and two 3-year renewals, at Yahoo’s option.
Advertisers will pay Yahoo directly for search marketing through its Panama advertising system that will be nothing more than a limited Google Adwords account using an API, and then pay Google for Google ads that appear on Yahoo’s pages. Google will then take a percentage of that revenue from Yahoo.
In short, Yahoo’s Panama advertising system will be nothing more than a front end for Google Adwords.
The story we have been hearing from the insiders is that you will be able to purchase ads on Google Adwords to run on Yahoo… meaning there would be zero reason to even use any of Yahoo’s login screens to purchase advertising… one account at Google will handle it all, and other than a front end Adwords API driven interface, Panama will be no more, several years of development went into the Panama program that will now be nothing more than a login screen to Adwords.
Several members of congress have stated that this might violate anti-trust laws and are considering options to stop the agreement.
