Apple Cofounder Steve Wozniak buys Google Phone
January 15, 2010
Steve Wozniak’s Favorite Gadget? The Google Phone according to Gizmodo.
Now that’s advertising (for Google), for all you that don’t know who Steve Wozniak is, he is the cofounder of apple, and honestly the technical brains behind the company during it’s inception. Unlike Jobs, Wozniak wasn’t into the business side of the company, he just wanted to build cool hardware.
Steve Wozniak came up with the computer that eventually made him famous. However, he was mostly working to impress other members of the Palo Alto-based Homebrew Computer Club, a local group of electronics hobbyists. It’s wasn’t really starting a company as per say and making a profit, it was more along the lines of “I wonder if I could get this to work”.
Basically Wozniak is a hero to all technical minded individuals.
In 1980, Apple went public and made Jobs and Wozniak multimillionaires. However, Jobs had refused to allow some employees of Apple to receive stock options, so Wozniak decided to share some of his founder stock with the rest of the team by either giving them away for free or at a heavily discounted price. This was dubbed “The Woz Plan”.
As we said before, Wozniak and Jobs are completely differing people. Wozniak is a true geek at heart… saw all this money coming in and was baffled why Jobs wouldn’t share it with the employees… so he gave his own money to them.
The man is amazing… and currently chatting it up on his Google Phone.
Open Letter to ad agency executives
January 13, 2010
Dear Mr. XXXXX,
I wanted to say thank you for your pitch. The part in focus that I wanted to discuss was where you said “Google and search is not everything”.
I understand your viewpoint, and I would like to discuss this further. When you have a chance could you call my google voice number. I have that number forwarded to my Google Android powered cell phone … while on the topic, I loved the idea of the app you discussed. Just make sure it runs on my Droid.
When you send over the document, I will make the edits in Google docs and make sure to run the media plan you sent over though Google Ad planner to double check the suggestions.
Regarding the commercial you presented to us, I need to send that to a few people here for discussion. If you could upload that to Google owned Youtube that would be great, just make sure to limit who can see it.
Regarding the billboard placements, that was a wonderful idea. Send me the locations so I can check them on Google Maps via street view to make sure it’s where we want them.
I really liked the beta webdesign you showed us, can you make sure that it renders properly in Google Chrome? When designing the site, don’t do it all in flash and make sure that it has unique titles and metas. I want to make sure we rank organically for our terms in Google. I agree with you that Google Analytics is the right way to measure the traffic and ROI from the campaign.
Also the discussion we had regarding mentions of our company in the press? We do feel that Google Alerts would do the job for us regarding that. As of course the press releases you send out will be in Google News.
You know, the more I think about this, the more I feel that perhaps I don’t want your advertising agency running the campaign. Perhaps we should hire an SEO firm for this.
Best Regards,
XXXXXXX
How long before China bans Google?
January 13, 2010
Trust me on this people, China isn’t going to allow Google to provide these results for their citizens for too long.
The fact that a click to this search provides THOSE results is something that the Chinese government won’t be able to handle.
Those images state much, way too much for Beijing. We give in 90 days, if not sooner… perhaps way sooner. The Tiananmen search is just not going to fly over there.
We do congratulate Google for taking a stand for free speech, but we don’t suspect this will last more than just a few days at most.
Chicago Sun times : advertising agencies had a down year
January 13, 2010
Well no fooling? The Advertising Agency business shows a bad year? That is the title screaming at the Chicago Sun Times
Like this prophetic statement of a headline is breaking news. The advertising agency business has been in decline in a big way since the early-2000′s as there has been a serious outlook change on what “advertising is”. For many of these firms advertising has been for the past century print and tv, but many digital firms view advertising as twitter feeds, search engine optimization and facebook fan pages as advertising.
Over the past 1/2 a decade it appears that the latter view on advertising has been winning, and this recession isn’t helping the first definition. Not at all and this isn’t going to stop anytime soon. not even close.
Google is a hero to everyone that supports free speech
January 12, 2010
Google has decided to pull out of China. Google recently uncovered Chinese government sponsored hacking attacks launched from within China. The Chinese operatives had been gathering information about at least 60 human rights activists.
Google officials said they plan to discuss with Chinese government to determine if there is a way the company can still provide unfiltered search results in the country. Otherwise Google intends to completely leave the country.
“The decision to review our business operations in China has been incredibly hard, and we know that it will have potentially far-reaching consequences,” David Drummond, Google’s top lawyer stated on the company blog.
Honestly, today Google is a hero to everyone that supports free speech.
Ocean Spray Reams Arnold Creative - voicemail!!
January 12, 2010
This is one of the most insult laden voice mails every recorded, and Agency Spy has it! I am sure that this is not what they expect when they hawk their ad agency skills.
Crying! This is the transcript:
this is —- calling from ocean spray cranberries in Boston
not sure if I worked with you on a cranberry tea project. We just went on your website and we stumbled onto our most proprietary confidential project in our entire company that you have stupidly featured on you website as a design that you have done.
I would ask that you take the design down now if you don’t take the design down now we will sue you.
I would ask for a call back I full expect a call from your creative at Leo Burnett because I have alot of connections there because I used to work at DDB i’ll be calling —— to ensure that I inform them of the mess you created.
And quite honestly I can’t believe what poor taste you have in terms of featuring that on your website, because you know what .. it’s not a very good design and doesn’t sell your capabilities well.
talk about an ass reaming.
First Twitter Murder - Twitter blamed for murder
January 12, 2010
Clearly Twitter is at fault here, everyone knows that twitter is the real cause, not some lunatic… or the fact that the murderer used a shotgun to kill him. So the foxnews report says “twitter killed him” whereas someone else might say “we need gun laws because he was murdered by a gun”
How about this people, the idiot murdered someone and he needs to go to jail.
Twitter can be blamed for a bunch of things, such as epic levels of spam, waste of time, etc etc.. but to blame Twitter for murder? That report has to come from foxnews… oh wait.. it does. Because if the report came from MSNBC of course it would blame the gun.
Anyone ever blame the person that did it?
Twitter didn’t kill this person, the internet didn’t kill this person, the gun didn’t kill this person. The murderer killed this person.
/ end of rant.
Parker on WPP Group : The final sad, pathetic end of Enfatico
January 11, 2010
George Parker is reporting the following:
This just in from Austin… The “Agency of the Future” has fired all the creative directors, they have taken ninety nine percent of the content out of the website (it’s just a list of offices now.) Torrence Boone is toast after they promoted him to CHAIRMAN, in charge of “special projects.” That lasted all of one month, and then they just bounced him out altogether. Gone. Fucking gone! And no one has a clue where he went.
Talk about game over, this is a complete disaster for WPP group plc. Not that the world didn’t see this coming for years. We even built a countdown clock (that we felt no need to update since Enfatico has been for the most part shut down for some time now)… but part of the new news is that Torrence Boone has been escorted out… and no one knows where he has gone… pretty shocking stuff. What is he up to these days?
See the problem is we can’t blame Torrence, he was given an impossible mission. You can’t build an ad agency like this, not the way Enfatico was built.
A robust advertising agency needs more than just one client, you need to have some sort of cross between industries, some things that work well in one industry might make sense if adapted to another. You need fresh ideas.
Enfatico had no ideas, it was a one trick pony that never actually even got off the ground. For the record, this last paragraph of the report most likely has more weight to it than anything else.
If I was a WPP shareholder I’d have some pretty hard questions for Sorrell before he picks up his $96 million performance bonus!
I felt that over here.
Star Trek 2 Leaked Online
January 11, 2010
Evidently, Star Trek 2 was leaked online and parts of it were posted on Youtube. This is breaking news. How exactly is having weapons at maximum going to help the situation? It’s easy, and below is the explanation.
“This is JJ Abrams finest work!”, Stated several individuals that have pre-screened the beta version of the movie.
“We’re starring all of SG-1 for Startrek for what they could bring to the table.” As far as the singularity exploding, JJ is quoted as saying. “The Singularity exploded on the first Star Trek movie when we destroyed Vulcan, so we wanted to continue that forward as the central theme.”
The first movie has received critical acclaim and box office fame for revitalising the franchise. We’re hoping that this helps increase awareness of Star Trek.
Open Letter to Infinity Ward regarding Nuke Boosting in Modern Warfare
January 10, 2010
Dear Infinity Ward,
You need to disable the nuke until you come up with some sort of patch to stop nuke boosting. The entire concept of FFA means FFA, not two guys getting together for nuke boosting.
This is garbage, and it completely ruins Modern Warfare.
These are the solutions we came up with.
1 - Issue a patch that disables tactical nuclear weapons. 95% of the time the second the nuke is launched it’s due to Nuke Boosting. Put it this way, it’s not normal to have a 25 killstreak. Not even close.
2 - Allow nukes, but multiple kills of the same individual won’t count towards your kill streak.. meaning that they have to kill someone else before they can kill that individual again in order to count towards their killstreak. Additional kills of the same individual without killing anyone else will not lead to any additional points or killstreak to get nukes or whatever.
Just watch the 1000 videos on youtube showing you what people are doing.
For those people that are not familiar with the game or what’s happening. Here is the layman explanation.
If you continue to have kills in the game, and reach 25 of them in a row without getting yourself killed, you are given a Nuclear Weapon to end the game (hence you win, everyone else loses).. or in the case of a Free-For-All.. the first and second players get all the credit.
Well for nuke boosting, this is what happens.
2 guys get together and hide in a corner somewhere, and kill each other so that one reaches 2ed spot, and the other one reaches first.
Then the guy that reaches first shoots the nuke winning the game after 25 kills, the guy in second place (his target) get a ton of points for second place.
This completely screws over everyone else in the game, and for a Free For All (FFA) it violates the spirit of every man for himself as 2 people are now partnered. It’s not “smart” it’s not “cool” it’s cheating the game.
This is worse than the Javelin Glitch. As the Javelin Glitch affected the people standing around the individual, this affects the entire game. If you agree please Digg.
