You might want to think twice before starting your own advertising agency

July 27, 2008

Pretty Amazing stuff, these guys figured they could start their own firm… and in the process take one of their former employers big clients… of course it ended in a lawsuit… and that lawsuit didn’t go good… they now have to fork over 300 grand…

A jury has awarded $300,000 to a Baltimore advertising agency after finding two of its former executives violated their duty of loyalty by forming their own competing company and taking a prominent casino client with them.

Stephen Mark Elmore and Marianne Martino, now principals of Gaga Marketing LLC in Stevenson, owe Chesapeake Marketing Communications Inc. for luring Charles Town Races & Slots to their new outfit.

This happens on a daily basis… you always here of guys leaving their agency… and taking a few of those clients with them in the process… however in this case… it didn’t turn out as expected…

Advertising Agency to get ‘breast-feed at work’ award

July 26, 2008

Interesting topic… an Advertising Agency is going to get a ‘breast-feed at work’ award. I fully understand the plight of these parents at work… daycare is not an option for 6 months old or younger for the most part. So there are very little options for new parents in regards to keeping a job and and a family.

However little babies at work? It really depends on how the arrangement is setup. Children can be a terrible distraction if they have infant colic for example. It’s a fairly common condition where a child literally screams for sustained periods of time for no apparent reason. However if the child is well behaved for the most part.. this could work… perhaps a quiet room with couch and TV could be provided for privacy when it’s breast-feeding time.. (if the women opts for it of course).

The Sherry Matthews Advocacy Marketing advertising agency is scheduled to be honored for allowing its employees to breast-feed at work and bring their children to the office for the first six months after birth.

Overall not a bad policy… as long as it is sustainable in an office environment and the distraction level is minimal.

Don’t worry Advertising Agencies - Google isn’t out to get you..

July 25, 2008

Of course with Google pushing out job apps like this .. it’s not any type of threat right? Of course not..

Senior Account Executives drive revenue by selling Google’s mobile solutions to top-tier advertisers. This is a high-energy job requiring persistent and persuasive interactions with clients, deep mobile and Internet expertise, proven sales skills, the ability to work collaboratively with internal sales teams, closing deals, strong communication skills and a broad base of mobile industry contacts. This is going to be a growing a growing problem for and advertising agency to attract the proper talent.. they are viewed as a backwards dinosaur compared to Google… and much of the talent pool will recognize that.

BBH/New York Levi’s ads called ‘Kiddy Porn’ by Chicago Sun-Times

July 24, 2008

The BBH/ New York advertising agency should be ashamed of themselves…. and Levi’s should be sending out Agency Reviews.. this is garbage.

despicable is a sleazy effort called “First Time,” which from our vantage point, comes off as a close brush with soft-core child porn. We presume the male and female models in the commercial are of age, but just barely if their childlike faces are any indication. We watch as the two kids unbutton their Levi’s while they exchange lines that suggest they are about to have sex.

“Is it gonna hurt?” asks the young boy. “A little,” responds the girl Full Story

If anyone can find the video please send it as this needs to be exposed… as it appears that BBH and Levi’s have pulled it from Youtube.

Regardless this is the 4th time we have heard this rumor today… take it for what it’s worth.

Pretty funny to see Google using Microsoft Ads on Digg however…

July 23, 2008

Rumors afoot that Saatchi N.Y. Executive Producer Colin Pearsall and CD Kerry Keenan will be leaving the agency at the end of this month…. Here

… and it stems from the .. now infamous… teen sex ad that J.C. Penny wants ‘removed from the Internet’ and other reasons that were noted to us.

This is unconfirmed as our source will not go on record for it… however we were greeted with a hang up when we called to verify from Saatchi & Saatchi ….

take it for what’s it’s worth. Wonder how the account will go moving forward from here..

New Microsoft Vista ads are of a sinking ship

July 23, 2008

We don’t even know where to start regarding the new Crispin Porter + Bogusky Ads for Microsoft Vista. It appears to paint Microsoft as a sinking ship.

New Ads by Crispin Porter + Bogusky for Microsoft

New Ads by Crispin Porter + Bogusky for Microsoft

The ads we are seeing look like a sinking ship…. we are not so sure this is the image Microsoft pays you to project for them.

The new ad concepts were leaked to Media Bistro’s agency spy , ZDNET and other media outlets as well as request was made for comment. Not sure this is what they expected.

Tribune owned Allentown Morning Call laying off everyone

July 23, 2008

A 73-year-old bureau in Lehighton will be closed and 35 to 40 newsroom positions cut as The Morning Call, Allentown, deals with a struggling economy via the Republican Herald. This is a terrifying time to be working in print, and the industries that surround print such as advertising agencies. These people are stuck in an industry with zero growth potential, but loads of reporting talent. Something that could with some effort become major online media outlets. However the problem stems generally with management of the papers. They were slow to adopt online.. they went to war with Google News (the same company that was sending them massive amounts of traffic) and last but not least they decided to adopt a virtual policy of no commenting on their stories… reducing their ability to keep users on their site furthering the user perception that the papers are aloof and not really caring about what their readers want. In essence.. they went against the online flow and are now paying the price for it.

Now of course papers are wising up to online… but this is years after they should of been… meaning lost market share.. lost credibility online.

We know the problem… that via print they earned more for ads than online… understood… but when General Motors increases their online ad budget… but decreases print that should trigger some thoughts that online will increase to where print was a few years ago. Meaning that if they invested in digital to the point where they were trying to gain more traffic from Google rather than try to sue them for copyright infringement life would of been much better now.

What do we know however… it’s not like our firm is growing at the same rate the papers are shrinking…..

Ogilvy & Mather hosts ‘Osama McDonald’ after taking money from big oil

July 22, 2008

First there were layoffs, they there was the CEO departure and the uncovering of Ogilvy lobbying for higher gas prices and now we have Oil Money taking Ogilvy claiming they are anti-war…

See the problem is the hypocrisy…. Ogilvy & Mather took money from big oil … actually lobbying for higher gas prices and was exposed by Keith Olbermann from MSNBC

These oil companies are the same people that are generally blamed for the war in Iraq… the gall of Ogilvy hosting anti-war artwork in one hand… and getting paid from the 4 dollar a gallon oil industry with the other is an outrage..

Ogilvy & Mather, New York is playing host to an art exhibit that uses some of the brand world’s most recognized symbols to imply corporations’ role in warmongering-case in point: “Osama McDonald” from designer Chuck Sperry Full Story

Ogilvy — you should be ashamed of yourself…. no wonder there is such a shake up there… if this is any indication of how you run your shop… it explains why the world appears to be crashing for you.
