There is a ton of questions that we would like to ask. But for the most part, we are proud of them!

Yahoo and Ebay to Merge - an Ad Agency Heaven

June 22, 2007

Rumours afoot of discussions between Yahoo and Ebay merging to fight Google. Hat tip to Threadwatch.Org for pointing this out.

This could be or not be true yet, as of press time it’s still a industry rumour , however it’s a pretty big rumour.. along the lines of screaming and yelling. A Yahoo / Ebay merger would deliver both the traffic and the financial backing to ‘fight Google’ however it still doesn’t even come close to winning over Google’s core business, search.

Google is the Gatekeeper to the internet. So putting these companies together would increase their cash flow and their traffic, but still lacks in the technology. This is the one of the main stumbling blocks that these companies must develop to better compete.

This puts Google still at an extreme advantage.

Some Ad Agency please tell Yahoo that people that are searching don’t want to see Brittany Spears before they do their search.

Worst Ad Agency Website Ever

June 16, 2007

We all ran into these in the industry from time to time.  You know, the Ad Agency that floats a horrific idea and calls it ‘innovative’

Well this is from a client of ours, their Ad Agency thought it was a great idea to scroll sideways on their new site design.

You heard it, Sideways.

They actually expected the visitors to scroll sideways to find more content on this horrific image mapped and flash based site.  The scroll wasn’t even really noticeable because no navigation was presented on what was visable on the screen. Meaning that someone would have to notice the scroll bars going right and left rather than up and down to find it.

There comes a point where one passes ‘innovative’

Also worth noting: The Ad Agency in question is publicly traded .. the client was billed for the ‘sideways job’ over $200,000 .. the Ad Agency wouldn’t ‘refund the money’ dispite the site never being placed on a public server.

The Message:Â Ad Agencies don’t belong on the internet

Life just got more difficult

June 16, 2007

Since the inception of the Web, online commerce has enjoyed hypergrowth, with annual sales increasing more than 25 percent overall, and far more rapidly in many categories. But in the last year, growth has slowed sharply in major sectors like books, tickets and office supplies, the NEW YORK TIMES will report on Sunday

Ebay drops Pay Per Click - Doesn’t do a dent

June 15, 2007

Ebay dropped all the Pay Per Click Ads from Google Adwords, Didn’t even notice a drop in traffic or conversions. The top five search terms sending traffic from Google to eBay were “www.ebay.com” or “ebay,” and accounted for 25% of eBay’s traffic from Google.

This means flatly that Organic Results are the driver of traffic to Ebay.. or better said, they have been wasting money on Pay Per Click to the tune of 2% of Google’s total revenue.

What does this actually mean, well if you are paying 2% of Google’s total revenue (for 2006 it was $10,604,000,000) of that is $212,080,000 is from Ebay. If you drop a quater of a billion dollars in PPC, and notice no change in traffic?

This raises a red alert to every advertising agency on the planet. If they focused 100% on Pay Per Click, and news like this breaks out.. it should be a wake up call to every ad agency charging 20% over spend and an hourly rate to boot.
