Tony Romo signals move to Houston Texans after QB trade
The writing is on the wall and Tony Romo knows it.
Houston and Denver, two teams that appear to be a quarterback away from Super Bowl contention, remain the frontrunners to secure Romo’s services.
The Broncos and Texans are considered the leading suitors for the Cowboys’ all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns.
If the Texans are unable to sign Romo, I believe they will look to draft a quarterback within the first two rounds of this year’s National Football League draft. And with Romo’s cap hit set at $24.7 million in 2017, keeping him wasn’t an option. A 10-year starter who joined the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2003, he lost the job last season to rookie Dak Prescott after breaking a bone in his back in a preseason game.
The Chiefs have steadfastly backed Alex Smith and said they aren’t interested in Romo, but it’s hard to believe they won’t at least consider bringing in a quarterback of Romo’s caliber.
Should the Broncos land Romo and offer up Siemian, don’t expect a deal for the QB to require more than a third or fourth rounder from Gang Green.
“When Tony Romo walks in the room introducing himself and meeting all these patients and families, it brightens their day”, Amanda Ammons at Children’s Health said. Another talented defensive team with a black hole at QB, the Texans might be so in on Romo that they’d give up on Brock Osweiler (who’s earned $37 million in guaranteed money this season and last).
And wherever he decides to go, we wish him the very best.
After telling the quarterback that he would be released, rumors began to swirl Thursday that the Cowboys would try to trade him to either Houston or Denver.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that sources told him that Romo will be released Thursday by the team.
