Star Trek 50th anniversary

He feared Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry had developed a show too sophisticated for mass audiences; a show which disguised social commentary with space action. That translated to reruns, and the rest, as they say, is history.

A longtime fan of science fiction and fantasy, West really got hooked on “Star Trek” with the premiere of “Start Trek: The Next Generation“. Star Trek debuted on NBC in 1966, developed by Roddenberry, a former Los Angeles cop who wanted to make a TV series which could sneak past the rampant escapism of most programs back then. “Love” has been turned into a Vulcan split-finger greeting, the “Haha” face has a Captain Kirk hairdo (sadly there is not enough detail to imply a toupee), “Wow” gets the Spock treatment, “Sad” looks like Geordi La Forge from The Next Generation and “Angry” has the ridged brow of a Klingon.

Two minutes into “Court Martial”, the 20th episode of the original series, a framed photo of a rocket is seen hanging on a wall inside Starbase 11. These are in no particular order.

William Shatner (Kirk) is now starring in “Better Late Than Never”. The “Haha” button has been adorned with Captain Kirk’s signature blond swoop, and the “Wow” button has Spock’s bangs and eyebrows. Kirk and Krall were mano-a-mano in the end and James Tiberius showed his humanity by trying to appeal to Krall rather than having Spock beat the crap of out Benedict Cumberbatch.

Pete Wentz The 1986 film “Star Trek: Voyage Home” was Pete Wentz’s first encounter with the series, he said in a video posted to the “Star Trek” Twitter page in May. Meanwhile, “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” had grossed more than $80 million in 1979, leading to several more movies in the ’80s and ’90s, followed by a 21st-century “reboot” of the series starting in 2009. While it’s not the first time Facebook has changed up its Reactions, she notes that Facebook might test more of these elements in future “community and moment-driven events like this one”. But Dr. McCoy was still the heart of the whole show, and it would have never taken off without him.

The episode, which first aired on February 2, 1967, is set 302 years after Gemini 6, on Stardate 2947.3.

Every Trek TV series, including 727 episodes, is available on Netflix, beginning with the very first. The stamps honor the 50th anniversary of the show’s first appearance on television.

Another familiar episode to non fans, this second-season episode introduces the Mirror Universe and puts an evil spin on the crew (notably Spock’s goatee).

“There’s always been a link between science fiction and science fact”, said Fincke in a NASA release at the time.

Not just because I’m a Trekkie but because the show’s influence is felt continuously in culture, we’ve aired a number of “Star Trek”-related segments on Off-Ramp in our ten years on the air”.

And now the ideal future of the original series is fifty years closer.
