PlayStation VR headset to launch in US, Europe on 13 October
Sony previously announced that PlayStation VR would be available to Canadians in October.
He also went on to talk about the standard lifecycle of the console that most manufacturers had adopted, and how Sony has made a decision to take an opportunity to change this strategy in this regard.
VR’s not the only hardware the PlayStation division is working on these days.
Either way, however it works out with Sony and the Playstation 4 Neo against Microsoft’s Xbox One Scorpio the market will likely undergo a drastic shift because of it.
The BBC then asked “Is this indicative of a new strategy for the PlayStation, that there’s going to be more heavy-duty upgrades over the course of a console’s lifecycle?” The PlayStation VR will ship to consumers on October 13, priced at $399 for the headset or $499 bundled with the required camera and Move controllers. The headset will retail at $399, which is now less than Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.
Vice-President, Marketing at Sony PlayStation John Koller added that the company’s VR push is about a lot more than just price. Speaking to The Guardian, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Andrew House stated that they would not be showing the console until there is enough content to justify the benefits of the machine.
Microsoft announced Monday the newest member of the Xbox family, the Xbox One S, as well as a system dubbed the Scorpio that will feature both VR compatibility and 4K-resolution video output. Virtual reality is a medium that’s in its infancy.
The VR Aim controller is not available yet, and is completely optional. The game titles are expected to cost from $20 to $40. The PlayStation 4 is the best-selling console in the world right now - hopefully, the publisher behind it has a few games planned for later this year. The hardware giant first unveiled Project Morpheus back in 2014, giving the project the much more straight forward PlayStation VR title previous year.
A trailer of the game shows players exploring an abandoned house, trying to find a way out before the sun sets.
