Trump backs surveillance of mosques despite criticism of rhetoric

After reiterating the major points of his campaign - focused largely on wealth disparity, but also racial justice, climate change and other issues - Sanders emphasized that his campaign is also about defeating presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump. “We’re importing radical Islamic terrorism to the west through a failed immigration system”, said Trump. “He speaks the way he does in very plain words, in very plain English, and he gets his message across”. “‘Mr. Trump, you have to run a campaign in accordance with our values, with American values”. Obama demanded, noting that the shooter responsible for the killing of 49 people in Orlando was born in the USA, as were the attackers in several previous terrorists acts. Trump’s rally featured him reading a poem about snakes (which he was using as a metaphor for undocumented immigrants) and yelling at a protestor to “go home to his mommy”. He also accused American Muslims of not reporting terror threats to law enforcement, claiming “they know who the people are, nearly in every case, they know who they are, they brag about it, they talk about it”. But some of those in the crowd said they were on board with the candidate’s assertions.

Male registered voters - regardless of race, age and whether they went to college or not - give Trump a higher favorability rating than Clinton. While the post drew criticism, Trump has said he received “tens of thousands” of notes praising his foresight. He may have one but there’s something on that, maybe religion, maybe it says he is a Muslim. The congressman, who has not endorsed Trump, said that while it’s fair to criticize aspects of Obama’s approach to combatting terrorism, “I part company with those then who want to get into these conspiracy theories”. “We have a radical Islamic terrorism problem, folks”, he argued.

Earlier this week, Trump yanked the credentials for the Washington Post over its “dishonest” reporting.

When Trump traveled to North Carolina on Tuesday, however, the complexity of this line of argument became clear as he met with, reportedly attended a fundraiser with, and praised McCrory. “Just be quiet - to the leaders - because they have to get tougher, they have to get sharper, they have to get smarter, and we have to have our Republicans either stick together or let me just do it by myself”. “I don’t think it is reflective of our country’s”, Paul Ryan said. “To use religion as a test, to say we’re going to discriminate against all Muslims, is so counterproductive it really nearly doesn’t deserve being talked about”.

House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan said Tuesday he did not think a ban on the entry of Muslims was in USA interests.

And not many countries have open borders, not just to Muslims but, you know, they want to make sure that the people who come are thoroughly vetted.

But an unbowed Trump refused to back down.

His attacks on others at least were a little more fleshed-out than his proposals to prevent further terror strikes.
