UEFA gives Russian Federation ‘suspended disqualification’ from Euro 2016
“They supported us very well during the England game”.
England’s next Euro 2016 football match has been bolstered with a huge security operation amid fears of a fresh wave of violence.
“The French and UEFA will rightly be asking themselves searching questions about how the segregation of fans within the VĂ©lodrome stadium broke down”, UK Home Secretary Theresa May said Monday.
Dyke said security in the Marseille stadium on Saturday had been “unacceptable” and claimed “there was insufficient segregation between the Russian and English fans”. The wife of England striker Jamie Vardy says she got caught up in the violence.
“I can not affirm it but it’s possible, it’s probable”, he told a press conference on Tuesday.
“The decisions of the Uefa Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body is open to appeal”.
UEFA said the disqualification would go ahead if a similar incident occurred at any of Russia’s remaining matches.
“The policing and security infrastructure of major events of the scale of the Euro and the FIFA World Cup are very complex in nature”, said FIFA in a statement to Reuters. He denied that any of the fans in the bus had taken part in the violence in Marseille.
One masked Russian thug donned a t-shirt with the words “Tour de France” and “f**k Euro 2016” on the front - complete with a map of the host nation.
“I don’t really understand the reaction of the British media, who have this impression England supporters are like angels who just behave themselves”, he said. Authorities of the southeastern French department of Alpes-Maritimes confirmed to TASS that a bus carrying a group of Russian football fans was stopped by police on Tuesday for inspection of documents. Everyone has to follow and see what is happening and communicate with the fans.
An unspecified number of people have been taken to detention centres, a possible prelude to deportation.
England captain Wayne Rooney and coach Roy Hodgson have already made a video plea for the country’s fans to avoid fighting in Lille. The teams tied, 1-1, in each team’s first game of the tournament.
They were heading towards the northern city of Lille and were suspected of being involved in the Marseille violence. Two nights of clashes between England supporters, French police and locals have marked the build up to Saturday’s Euro 2016 soccer Championship match between England and Russian Federation.
In Lens, the police chief said alcohol sales would be prohibited from Wednesday 0600 (0400 GMT) to Friday 0600 in shops, supermarkets close to vehicle parks and petrol stations serving between Lille and Lens.
Police will be at the stadium to help separate fans.
