Apple makes Siri smarter, rolls out software improvements

Apple’s WWDC keynote has wrapped up for another round and there’s big news on the horizon.

Company executives announced that Siri, Maps and iMessage will be open to software developers.

Is iMessage the new Yahoo Messenger or is it the best thing since sliced bread?

Although Apple is now allowing users to get rid of apps, it isn’t yet allowing users to set new apps as the defaults for particular functions.

This week, Apple is hosting some 5,000 developers from more than 74 countries at its 27th annual World Wide Developers Conference out in California.

Jeff Underwood, Lakeshore’s president and CEO, said wheelchair users tend to be more sedentary than the general population because they face more barriers to physical activity.

The new operating systems and app will be released to the public this fall, Apple said.

The developer tools for iOS 10, due later this year, will include CallKit, a framework that lets developers of VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) applications make it easier for iPhone and iPad users to take calls sent from communication apps. Apple introduced “Apple Pay on the web” which allows you to use your iPhone’s Touch ID to make purchases on your Mac as noted in the keynote graphic below.

Though it wasn’t officially announced, people started noticing that Apple’s default apps (Stocks, News, etc.) were showing up in the AppStore like the company’s other optional offerings.

Or maybe you are just a KonMari devotee who doesn’t want apps they never use like iBooks or Podcasts cluttering a minimalist homescreen. THE MACApple’s new Mac system will be called macOS Sierra.

Those were the themes behind Apple’s announcements here Monday at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference when it comes to the next versions of Apple’s software for products such as the iPhone, the Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV.

Earlier today, June 13, 2016, Apple unveiled the future of the iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS operating systems, introducing the next major releases of each one of them.

Apple Pay is also making its debut on Mac and will intelligently link to the iPhone’s TouchID for authentication. They’ll be able to use an Apple Watch to unlock their computer without having to type in their password.

That said, not all features of recent operating systems (eg AirDrop and screen sharing to an Apple TV) were available on older hardware.

Apple has introduced bold headings throughout the app, and placed a renewed emphasis on album artwork. And the results of Siri searches can be transferred from the results window to other apps via drag-and-drop, just as you’d expect on the Mac. You can launch live TV viewing with voice command and search YouTube and the iTunes store for videos using Siri.

For interest sake, Apple’s Craig Federighi, Senior VP of Software Engineering for iOS and macOS went out of his way to show the advancements in Siri’s ability to understand deep questions relating to Siri’s new “deep learning” capabilities.
