Adidas misspells Colombia in Copa America ads

Colombia became the first side to reach the quarter-finals of the Copa America Centenario, while the United States thumped Costa Rica 4-0 to get their campaign back on track.

The Americans have no chance to overtake Colombia for first place in Group A, so their motivation to win may not be as strong as it was prior to taking on Costa Rica.

Colombia scored two first-half goals, then held on for a win in Pasadena, Calif., and clinched a berth in the quarterfinals.

The final seeding in the group will come down to the last games in which the United States plays Paraguay and Colombia plays Costa Rica.

If Costa Rica and Paraguay were to finish with identical points and goal difference, lots will be drawn for second place (group game was 0-0).

The United States and Paraguay square off on Saturday evening in the all-important final matchup of Group A. With everything on the line, the Americans need a result to go through to the next round. Barring a Costa Rica victory over Colombia, this matchup will more than likely determine who advances to the quarterfinal of the Copa America Centenario.

Real Madrid star James Rodriguez scored in Colombia’s 2-1 win over Paraguay in the Copa America on Tuesday night.

“Of course, it’s always bad to get (caught) on set pieces, but we get prepared now to do it better the next time”, defender John Brooks said Sunday before practice.

They pressed down on the pedal and never budged, scoring two hard goals in simple fashion from Jones and Wood, sending fans off the walls with enthusiasm. A loss to Paraguay would eliminate the US from the competition. Wood won the ball in midfield and played a one-two with Dempsey before turning to strike home a low drive from 15 yards out. Paraguay’s top goal scorer, forward Roque Santa Cruz, is 34 and will no doubt struggle with a schedule that has Paraguay making two cross-country trips in one week.

“We were eager to get on the field, eager to get our first three points of the tournament”.

Whatever Klinsmann said in the trainings lead up to and in the pregame in Chicago seemed to work especially since he played the same exact starting XI. The Paraguayans did not sit back and instead attacked Colombia’s defense with reckless abandon for the second 45 minutes, which made for an entertaining game. Substitute midfielder Graham Zusi added the finally tally in garbage time (87th minute) on a pretty individual play and goalkeeper Brad Guzan (2 saves) notched the relatively easy shutout in his hometown. A draw would do the job as well, assuming Costa Rica fail to make up a six-goal gap in goal differential.
