Murray defeats Wawrinka to reach first French final
But, aside from that, I was playing some good stuff.
Murray muted French fans and their final singles hope silencing Gasquet 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-0, 6-2 to surge into his fourth Roland Garros semifinal in his last five appearances. 6-0, 6-2 fourth-round win.
The third-seeded Swiss scored his 12th straight Roland Garros victory overwhelming Albert Ramos-Vinolas, 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 (7). The Swiss converted his first set point, with Murray serving at 4-5, Ad, as the Scot netted a backhand, prompting a roar from Wawrinka and a jog back to his chair. Tennis players during these events have to be selfish and look at their own matches and try their best to get through them. With both players finding the angles and mixing up their shots, the Parisian crowd might have anticipated a classic at that point, but Murray had other ideas. “I play some really good tennis”.
“I am extremely proud”.
The world no. 2 Murray would fall under a similar pattern in the second set, going up 5-2 early and losing matches inexplicably after.
PARIS An 18-year rivalry will play out its next gripping chapter at Roland Garros as Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic eye up a French Open final in which milestones galore will be on the line.
The match, which began in mist on Tuesday, was concluded with an additional 72 minutes on the clay as the top seed reached the Paris quarters for the 10th time.
“For me it’s going to come down to the mentality because this is the only (grand slam) tournament Djokovic hasn’t won - he’s done everything in tennis apart from the (Olympic) gold medal and the French Open”, Rusedski added.
Murray does not expect the continuing cold and damp conditions to favour either player.
Two men’s quarterfinals are set for Thursday: No. 1 Novak Djokovic against No. 7 Tomas Berdych, and No. 12 David Goffin against No. 13 Dominic Thiem.
The Stosur-Halep match was suspended Sunday during the first set.
This is a real tough match to pick. And also he’s a very nice guy. Whether I do or not, we’ll have to wait and see.
“It was mentally and physically tough to win”.
Radwanska said: “I’m just so surprised and angry that we have to play in the rain”.
Murray’s timing has been more off than on this tournament but he was striking his backhand superbly and not allowing Wawrinka to find any rhythm. I am still able to hit through the ball and make some winners.
Adroitly sidestepping a question about Trump, Williams said she is “not involved at all” in politics.
“When we play regular tournaments you play four, five matches in a row”. I do think I played well.
“I didn’t know what to do because he was returning well”.
“The most disappointing part is just not playing well”, Williams said.
Murray got off to the better start, breaking serve in the third game and that proved to be enough for him to pocket the first set in a hotly-disputed 10th game where Wawrinka had break points to level. “Stan’s record here the last couple of years is unbelievable”, he said.
Thiem got his first break in the third set but that spurred a purring Djokovic back into action and his opponent, who won the Nice tournament last month, had no answers. Serena looked very much like a 21-time Grand Slam champion facing a 21-year-old who has only reached one major quarterfinal, and now faces unseeded Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan.
