Adele's '25' set to break one-week U.S. album sales record

The only album to have a bigger first-day debut was Be Here Now by Oasis, which sold 424,000 copies in 1997 - an era in which overall music sales were much higher.

The current record is held by No Strings Attached, which sold 2.415 million units in the week ending March 26, 2000.

That would break NSYNC's longstanding record.

Sources reveal that Columbia Records, a subsidiary of Sony, will ship 3.6 million physical copies of Adele's new album 25 in the USA, a number marking the largest shipment of new-release CDs shipped in the past decade.

But with her new album 25 now in stores, self-proclaimed "mouthy" Brit Adele has told how she struggled to believe in her talents as she does the promotional rounds for the chart-topping album.

The music industry, which has been stagnant after stemming years of heavy losses, believes "25" could be the most successful album in more than a decade.

In "Million Years Ago", she sings, going back to the theme of dealing with her fame both innocently and vulnerably. In fact, Spotify issued a statement, which was obtained by Reuters, saying, "We love and respect Adele, as do her 24 million fans on Spotify".

Adele's first album, 19, sold 73,000 copies in the first week and her second, 21, sold 208,000. "I get really nervous, I'm scared because I don't want to disappoint them." the singer said.

She started recording this album at the age of 25, and maybe it's just a matter of having to grow into it. After all, I didn't think that 21 was such a masterpiece until I was actually in college.

So Adele's people have no plans to stream her 25 album-at least for now. The singer has not commented directly on her decision, but on Friday she made a brief comment on her social media accounts about the release. The more sonically interesting soundscapes paired with her soothing emotive vocals and dramatic flair make "25" her best work yet, easily outshining the Motown-inspired soul jams of her previous albums.

Reuters quoted Tyler Goldman of streaming music service Deezer, as saying, "She's benefiting from paid subscriptions, but she's using this as an opportunity to try and sell more CD's or downloads". So although I can't say incredible things about this album now, I have a lot of faith in Adele and even in 25. "Whether or not Adele is courageous enough to make a radical reinvention, the album shows enough progression to anticipate the further growth of her sound".
