Taye Diggs defends wanting biracial son to embrace being mixed

Up to date: 20:58 EST, 18 November 2015 Taye Diggs wants everybody to know he is rad with his bi-racial son identifying as both black or white or mixed. The actor made that announcement during a recent interview with TheGrio, but does he have a valid argument for opposing the label? Instead, he addressed his critics by standing by his comments and giving folks something to chew on making them think about a situation where his son wants to identify himself as white.

The actor and children's book author spoke out about the need to honor both sides of six-year-old Walker's heritage while doing publicity for his new book Mixed Me! His comments took a turn for the worse when he said he "feared" people would see his son as Black, the way many view President Barack Obama. Understandably, the sentiment raised a lot of eyebrows, but not from Jones who actually thanked the actor for his book "Mixed Me" and then went on to say she'll never claim a race, except the 100 m hurdle.

Everybody refers to him as the first black president, I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying that it's interesting.

Being that Diggs isn't actually bi-racial it would be up to his son to decide what he wants to be called - or if he even cares what other people think.

"I've always been exposed to people of mixed race", he explained to EW in October.

"He has a mother who is white. 'He has each right to be just as pleased with his mother's 'blood" as well, ' he stated on social media on Wednesday. "Wake up, people. It's not that deep", the outspoken star tweeted.

"My son is half black, half white and just by watching him growing up, listening to other biracialor how you want to term these handsome peopletheir experiences, their accounts what it's like coming from a blended relationship".
