Princeton and Protesters Reach Agreement

Wilson served as Princeton's president prior to his election to national office-hence the tributes to him on campus-but the student protesters believe such references to him are unbecoming, insofar as the progressive-minded President was also a virulent racist and staunch segregationist.

As Princeton University came to agreement with the students occupying the president's office in a 32-hour sit-in, school authorities received a bomb and firearm threat referencing student protests.

Princeton University has agreed to look into the legacy of alumnus and former U.S. President Woodrow Wilson after a group of students staged a sit-in to protest his views on race and segregation.

The agreement also stated that the university would initiate the process to consider removal of a Wilson mural from a university dining hall.

Administrators agreed not to impose any formal disciplinary action against the student protesters who peacefully left the office. It will be a substantial shake-up of Princeton's existing housing structure, which relies mostly on residential colleges that mix up students of all backgrounds. Not exactly a slam dunk for the protestors, but a significant capitulation for an Ivy League worldwide affairs school that is consistently ranked as among the best in the world.

"We appreciate the willingness of the students to work with us to find a way forward for them, for us and for our community", said university President Christopher Eisgruber said.

"We demand the university administration publicly acknowledge the racist legacy of Woodrow Wilson and how he impacted campus policy and culture", the group stated on Facebook Wednesday afternoon.

The Department of Public Safety sent a campus safety alert via email to members of the University community on Thursday at around 9 p.m, calling the threat non-specific. When asked to rate the efficiency of the demonstrations on a scale of 0-10, with 0 being the lowest, the students gave an average rating of 3.8, They gave the idea of removing Wilson's name a 2.5 rating, and a 5.4 rating to the effort to provide a space specifically for black students.

The document signed by students and administrators was published on the Princeton University website late Thursday. The faculty members will now be known as "head of the college". He also reportedly told students that Wilson was a racist, but that "in a few people, you have good in great measure and evil in great measure".

Tanjong said the issues students hoped to raise at the sit-in was more than just about Wilson's legacy of racism and echoes much of the concerns students at Yale expressed.
