Kraft Heinz to make job cuts and close 7 plants

Kraft Heinz, the third-largest food and beverage maker in North America, is struggling with shrinking demand for packaged foods, underscoring the need to reduce costs. The food giant is controlled by the Brazilian investment firm 3G Capital, which is known for cutting costs. At the appropriate time, affected employees will receive severance benefits, outplacement services and other support to help them pursue new job opportunities. She said the optics of investing in a downsizing facility aren't lost on her. But without these incentives, she said, Kraft Heinz would have likely left Iowa altogether.

Mullen also said that Kraft Heinz intends to work with its outgoing employees.

The company said about 250 corporate jobs in the Oscar Mayer and USA meat business unit will be relocated from Madison, Wis., to Chicago.
