Global Space Station Suffers Short Circuit - Power System Degraded

NASA is also on course to build and work on a low-earth orbit onboard that will facilitate life and work in space for the extended period.

NASA members aboard the global Space Station are attempting to grow flowers for the first time in space - and it's not just for the sweet smell.

Of course, growing plants in outer space is about more than astronauts eating lettuce and looking at pretty flowers. Developed by Orbital Technologies Corp, a Veggie system, along with one set of Zinnias and dual sets of pillows containing romaine seeds, was sent to a space station by a SpaceX resupply goal in April 2014.

In order to ensure that the flowers will grow properly, Lindgren will use red, green and blue LEDs and feed and water the plants, and after about 60 days, we should see the plants blooming.

Gioia Massa, NASA's cargo scientist for Veggie, pronounced flourishing flowering crops in space would be distant some-more severe than flourishing a vegetative stand like lettuce. Instead, it's hoped the exercise will help NASA hone its plant-growing skills, with flower growth posing a far greater challenge than raising vegetables to maturity. Lighting and other environmental parameters can critically change the way a flowering crop evolves.

To make the flowering crops grow, LED lights will be on for 10 hours and off for 14 hours, replicating the light cycle of a standard day in temperate latitudes. This is the first time a flowering crop will be included, and it will provide information about other flowering plants that could be produced in space, according to a release.

No, the experiments are not aimed at helping along any romantic liaisons that might blossom on future space expeditions, nor are there any plans to open a chain of space-based florist's. Flowers are also having a turn.
