Iran's president postpones Europe trip in wake of Paris attacks

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who had been due to travel with Rouhani, told state television he would now instead head Iran's delegation to worldwide talks on the Syrian conflict in Vienna.

Following last night's deadly attacks in Paris, Rouhani canceled today's visit to Italy and France, which was supposed to be his first European trip as Iranian president since he assumed office in 2013.

On the importance of joint efforts to tackle terrorism, Renzi praised Iran's effective role in fighting terrorism, and said that countries should remain united against common threat of terrorism.

"In the name of the Iranian nation, itself a victim of the evil scourge of terrorism, I strongly condemn these inhumane crimes and condole with the bereaved French nation and government", President Rouhani said in his message.

Late on Friday, a string of coordinated attacks in and around the French capital left at least 127 people dead and a few 200 others injured.

Zarif said the Paris assaults demonstrated the danger of extremism wasn't restricted to the Middle East, or so the fight against it shouldn't be restricted to the area either.

French President Francois Hollande declared a state of emergency, closed the French border and ordered a mobilization of extra servicemen after the attacks.
