Tomkins out of New Zealand series

Australia have been officially warned they risk falling to third in rugby league's world rankings if England beats New Zealand 3-0 in the Test series that kicks off in Hull on Sunday.

The Wigan favourite has not played for two months because of the injury, but is expected to be named in McNamara's 19-man squad on Friday and to challenge Zak Hardaker for the full-back spot.

The 26-year-old Wigan back initially attended England's training camp earlier this week and was passed fit before breaking down.

The tourists warmed up for the series with a 34-15 victory last weekend over the Leeds Rhinos.

"We really have a huge responsibility to enhance our global games", McNamara told reporters.

He refused to be drawn on his future as England boss with his contract up at the end of the year - but believes he is a better coach than when he was appointed in 2010, and that his dual role can continue to work.

"He's helped me so much week in, week out, giving me tips on how I can improve my game and helping me on ways of attacking".

"It was perhaps mundane for a few people watching one side score and score and score but for me our execution and ability to concentrate for a long period of time was really good", he said.

England coach Steve McNamara thinks that his team should continue to play matches against northern hemisphere opposition, such as France, in order to maintain the sport's development.

"I'm keen to explore all avenues to create a stronger global environment", he added. "I'm fully focused on making sure we win this series and everything else on the back of that can be worked out afterwards".

"But ultimately it's not just about what the England coach wants, it's about what clubs need to be sustainable".

He said: "There is no doubt that if I had not gone to Hull and played in Super League I would not be at this stage now".
