Nigeria rescues 338 Boko Haram captives

Nigeria's army has published photos of almost 100 people whom it says are its most-wanted Boko Haram suspects.

"The (army) unit ... rescued 338 persons that were held captive by the terrorists", the army said of the Tuesday operation, adding that 192 of the survivors were children and 138 women.

Army spokesman Sani Kukasheka Usman said at least 30 terrorists were killed in the raid on Boko Haram terrorist camps in the villages of Bulajilin and Manawashe, located near the Sambisa forest in restive north eastern Borno province, according to Sahara Reporters.

Separately troops ambushed and killed four suspects on a bombing mission in northeastern Adamawa state, it said.

Arms and ammunition recovered from the insurgents include, a General objective Machine Gun, two Dane Guns, 3 Cutlasses, more than one hundred and fifty thousand naira in cash as well as several unexploded Ordinances.

Its leader Abubakar Shekau appears twice on the list, despite previous claims by the army that he had been killed and claims by Chad's President Idriss Deby in August that the group had a new leader who was open to dialogue. Boko Haram denies scores of extremists have turned themselves in.

Boko Haram has lost most of its territory this year but increased suicide attacks and bombings since May. The air force said in a statement on Tuesday it had launched strikes on the group's vehicles and fuel depots "in a renewed drive to further degrade" its assets.

Along the sidelines of the third India-Africa Forum Summit, the Cameroon Foreign Minister Lejeune Mbella asked India for help in fighting Boko Haram.

On Wednesday local officials in Niger said 13 people were killed in an attack on a village in the southeast allegedly carried out by Boko Haram militants.

The organisation is said to have ties with Al Qaeda and in March they declared their allegiance to ISIS.

The Cameroon minister Mbella pointed at the spread of the organisation from Nigeria to other countries.
