Russian air strikes kill 45, including rebel commander: monitor

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Tuesday that Russian air strikes have so far killed at least 370 people had been killed, including more than 120 civilians.

Government officials said there was no sign yet of people from Aleppo reaching Turkey in large numbers, adding that there was capacity to initially accommodate 55-60,000 in a camp in the Turkish border town of Kilis.

Russian airstrikes have killed dozens of people in a Syrian coastal province, including a rebel commander who formerly served in President Bashar Assad's army, activists said Tuesday.

Moderate and Islamist rebel groups took control of Jabal al-Akrad in 2012.

Russian Federation also claims to be targeting IS and other "terrorists" but the Pentagon says it's hitting non-IS rebels fighting government forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.

Russian Federation asked for "deconfliction" talks with the United States after Moscow began bombing Syria on September 30. The Syrian regime's forces were being given logistical support and Iranian intelligence had to be active, the official said, "otherwise we would be fighting Isis in the metros of Tehran".

Earlier in the day, western media reported three Russian soldiers were killed during militant groups' shelling on the Jabal Younes area in the countryside of Latakia, where the Russian air forces are stationing.

The activist group said civilians were amongst the casualties caused by the strikes but did not know exactly how numerous dead were non-combatants.

The First Coastal Division is one of several groups that have received foreign military support including US-made anti-tank missiles, the most potent weapon in the rebels' arsenal.

The rest of those killed were insurgent fighters across groups including Islamic State and al Qaeda's Syria wing, the Britain-based group said.

His death came a day after Ismail Nassif, chief of military operations for the Noureddine al-Zinki brigade, backed by the USA and Saudi Arabia, was killed in Aleppo. He said the rebels are putting up a fight and pushing back against advances and that the government is accumulating more losses.
